This episode had me too hype from the music to the directing and buildup to frieren breaking the barrier it was all just incredible such a great episode

greenb3ar

Madhouse cooked again

bleach

I hope we get a Stark episode to see what he's upto while the girls take their exams

Hasnain Khan

Yehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Totally Thomas

Respect on Denken. How often do you see mages say, "Put them up. Let's fight with fists."?

Cameron Robinson

I like the rock guy didn’t take the bluff or the bait to fight near water. He wasn’t going to put himself at a disadvantage to make things “fair”. I like to see the person that’s kind of in a villainous role, make the smart decision and not the maybe the most honorable decision.

Anderson Lake(The Bleach)

I think Denken went in aiming to win. Frieren admitted herself she's lost to people technically weaker than her, half were human. She's not invincible.

Kingmakaii

I just caught up with the manga today can’t wait to see how the next test is animated and that nigga ran right into a uppercut from hell 😭

bark

I feel like Himmel's party members maybe aren't as famous as Himmel himself, or maybe people don't realise how powerful the other members actually are, We see a couple statues of Himmel by himself around but never any of the other members on their own, it's like Himmel is the Hero and the rest of them are the Hero's party,

Karma

my man denken! one of my favorite side characters

pmreez

God this to such a good show. Frieren is HER

ThunderousMacabre

That old man said let me show you my Mashle muscles magic at the end 😂😂

The Endless

Nah bro got hoed. In a random encounter you’re not always gonna be guaranteed access to the specific element you control. He basically got jumped 3v1 lol but it is a team based battles so I get it. They still had no business winning tho, talk about getting lucky with one of the strongest living mages on your team

Hemmel was like the only one getting his statues done. Everyone else really wasnt about it

DANIEL PEREZ

but like the girl said if he really wanted to prove what he was saying he would "allowed" to to use water to prove he is right and all it took was that to not get him mad but irritate him enough that his magic would falter even for one moment cause in this world one moment of distraction is what will kill you it. it happened to the demon fighting fern he saw stark kill that other demon and got surprised and fern used that mopen to do what gojo did to toji.

Polygon

Denken is unironically one of the best characters in this series. Can't wait for the anime to get to his arc, it's one of the best in the series and feautures one of the most absurdly overpowered Demons.

William kimura

I don't get Sheera calling them "Petty" for still trying to find a way too win. Like what? How is that petty?

Gabe

Fax became one of my favorite characters

This episode was peak but what really takes Frieren to the next level is the fully realized worldbuilding. This is one of the few shows where not only does each episode set up future episodes, but it also enhances and enriches previous episodes. Let's take Qual for example. We had an episode where we see the effects of time and the importance of human innovation leading up to his defeat. It was a fully realized episode, masterfully done and complete. A lesser show would have left it there but not Frieren. That episode had tons of future pay off- it established the weakness of defensive magic is its high mana cost and we get to see that in Richter's fight with the girls. In any lengthy battle between 2 even parties- defense will always lose to offense hence Richter questioning why the school is teaching them to fight defensive wars of attrition. That's not all though- the episode adds weight to just how much of a menace Qual and Zoltraak was. In the previous episode it's easy to dismiss Qual as a weaker demon- man's got defeated in less than 5 minutes by Frieren and a relatively inexperienced mage. However, we see the impact of Zoltraak to this day. Humanity had to focus all their efforts into magic resist in order to survive that spell- to the point where they not only didn't, but couldn't, improve the physical resist of defensive magic without making it too slow to be useful. In return, humanity's mages focused less on direct magic attacks and more on controlling the physical world around them. We saw the impact of Qual on the development of human defensive magic but now we see he even changed the trajectory of human offensive magic as well. Thus, enhancing the threat of a one-off villain who appeared in half of an episode. Then if that wasn't enough- the fight between Denken and Frieren takes all of this and illustrates it in their fight with very little exposition. Denken's 3-piece combo would have no doubt taken out almost any other modern mage. First a tornado to ensure that the mage could not flee. Second- igniting that tornado creating an AoE damage spell. The only way to defend yourself from such a spell is an omni-directional defensive spell- a move that the aforementioned Qual episode already explained takes a catastrophic amount of mana. Any other mage caught in this move would be either completely drained of mana or on their last dregs. Third- a high-speed rapid-fire light attack that would be near impossible to dodge or defend if you had exhausted your mana. Game-set-match. Alas, we already know that Frieren has a much more massive pool of mana than almost every other mage and furthermore we know there was no way for Denken to know this since Frieren is constantly suppressing her actual mana output. All this info I just wrote was packed into a short, satisfying fight. In most other battle anime, we would have long winded internal dialogues or an outside party meticulously explaining exactly what was going on. However, Frieren doesn't need to resort to this because the world-building is so airtight the reader can implicitly understand what is happening. A masterclass in storytelling.

Old man was the definition "Teach yo mans how to squabble"

Xavier Baker

listen,we know damn well these three niggas as mages would do worst, dont allow Sheera to talk nonsense knowing damn well they would do the same shot

alexis ♡︎

i also think a lot of people underestimate frieren because they don’t know how old she is. it’s common knowledge that the longer you train, the more mana you have. even though people know she’s an elf, i don’t think their first assumption would be that she’s 1000+ years old. her first and only historical achievement was only like 80 years ago. plus she looks like she’s like 16-17 (at least to me) so if i saw her i’m definitely not assuming she’s 1000 😭 even knowing she was an elf i’d probably still guess 2-300 because that’s a long ass time TO ME ykwim

Xavier Baker

like how Superman has about 20 suits that covers his weaknesses and still runs around in tights, its refreshing to see characters like Richter(rock guy)they not tryna fight ,they tryna body you or win

Glib Dolotov

I had never given it much thought, but this is a good point. It also feels a bit vague as to what a "win" is in this context, and Denken is very flexible. Plan A) Denken wins against Frieren Plan B) Denken delays Frieren enough for Laufen to escape with the stille. This forces Party 2 (Frieren) into a stalemate in which Frieren must leave to try to catch another stille. Plan C) Denken and Laufen get caught but Richter catches Lawine and Kanne hostage. A suboptimal stalemate.

Luhbabytay

Sheera I’m pretty sure he wasn’t thinking he could beat the demon king and you act like she beat the demon king all by herself when she had a whole group to help her.

Luhbabytay

Anyone who not the main cast she always gonna make them out to be bad lol that how she is

Coatl45

Can’t say that I wouldn’t be petty as hell, either. I would love magic, but I’d probably abuse the hell out of it. And mostly for my own amusement.

Anderson Lake(The Bleach)

Yeah, what constitues a win is also a factor. Some other things that could have happened is richter didn't listen to Denken and tried to kill them from the start or if Frieren didnt finish analyzing in time. Cause Richter was dominating that fight until the very end. I like how Frieren shows how just being stronger or better doesn't mean you'll win. It's not outrageous to say Richter beats Lawine and Kanne 7/8 times out of ten but because of luck and the situation they were able to achieve that 2/3 out of 10 chance of winning. The luckiest thing being that it was raining in the first place, if it wasn't raining they weren't winning that fight.

Daniel Borrego

props to MADHOUSE for being absolute chads this episode and REanimating the start of the fight from a completely different angle from last episode for no reason other than to flex. a cool detail that most people miss is that when frieren breaks the barrier, there is a single frame of Serie thats seen, probalby meaning shes directly observing frieren casting the spell or that the barrier is beign maintained by siere herself and frieren has to break the control.

godUsoland

I wonder if Kanne fought Frieren in the rain, would that make her #12 on the list who can beat her?

Fuji

when the reactors are reacting in a reaction video

Ken Lucero

This a good ep! Out of topic, but can y’all add roruoni kenshin to y’alls roster for watching please?

StorySmith []

So magic cant defend too well against physical projectiles. So you’re telling me that a gun can beat any mage in this world.

Luhbabytay

Yea, Richter waited for denken to finish fighting that why he lost. he could have kill those two girl and won but lost cause he decided to listen to the old man

Jun Zheng

I heard a explanation of that from someone else that made sense. Frieren can't visualize beating her in the rain but that doesn't mean she can't cast a spell that makes the rain stop.

Victor

I'm surprised that the other team lost in a fist fight, one of them even built like a warrior. I'm glad Denken's team passed though, they all seem to be interesting characters.

rYenis

so we aint saying anything about lupa's god tier flash back pun?

These Plums

"You're a man, aren't you?" -Denken, the Goat (Wait on it).

Mirrorline

I wonder if the chick judge can also suppresses her mana just like Frieren since the stille been chilling on top her head since the start or the exam

lyssa

As everyone is saying Denken is indeed the goat

Devin B

I did hope that Denken actually got to pass because he started the last fight with a haymaker, he basically said I'm done playing around and got to business real quick

DatKid_Kaneki

mmm idk if the rules apply to physical projectile’s? cause maybe a mage can slow the rotation of the bullet rendering it useless?

Ougi

"But ur outta mana" "I still got these hands don't i ?" Denken a goat fr

Fizzy

Nah denken is so real for that🤣🤣🤣nigga really said catch these hands

Fizzy

Facts he already one of my fav characters in the show already

Fizzy

Yeah richter was cooking them even while being jumped they got lucky

LucidLeshen

Denkin is an imperial mage. He is like an elite soldier, I'm sure he has a variety of skills including hand-to-hand combat.

Jimmy

I think people forget that Fieren has over 1000 years of experience. She has forgotten more spells than most would learn in a lifetime. You can maybe overcome that with talent but not likely. For more perspective, their "mage lord" is an Elf.... Who knows how long he's been around.

JsnSkg

Appreciate the shirt, Roshi. Your name/alias in katakana, that's pretty cool. Also works really well for a shirt because it's only two characters. Give it that extra impact with the simplicity.

Gate

how do the 3 watch together, is it on a TV, a projector, or are they just huddled around a laptop screen? lol

JsnSkg

Speedsters are ALWAYS overconfident in their speed. Whether it's The Flash, Sonic, Top (from Undead Unluck), or Laufen here. "I'm fast af, no way they can catch me. Nobody can catch me. I'm fast af." They always make the mistake of underestimating someone with a very high level of perception, or someone who is smart enough to plan ahead.

JsnSkg

What's there to wonder? Ofc they can, or else the Stille wouldn't have gone anywhere near them. The anime literally told you as clear as day via the lore.

JsnSkg

Here's a hot tip: Don't watch the episode for the first time through a reaction. Watch it on your own to get the full experience (which is the most sensical and logical thing to do), then watch other ppl react to it afterwards. Almost never worth it to watch something for the first time through a reaction. Takes out all the immersion.

JsnSkg

Exactly, how is wanting to pass the exam petty? That's literally common sense. He gave his story too, he wants to GO HOME and visit the grave of someone important to him. That is the opposite of petty. Does she even know what the word means? Smh.

Juls

Will you guys watch Monster? Super underrated show.

Luhbabytay

A Tv lol tf question is that … you never watch their stream a see a tv in the background

xX Valtiel Xx

Try Hinamatsuri, it's wild

danial javady

Ah, my anti-barrier nuke technique I haven't used for a thousand years.

Mirrorline

No what I meant to the extent of what Frieren, Flamme and Fern does it. Because the Stille has been on her for quite some time. Do other people alsu suppressed their mana to fooled demons like Frieren, Flamme and Fern?

Rishad GB

yall noticed? frieren said even SHE cant beat a mage in the rain who controls water

Rishad GB

"theres no better mage than serie" frieren: Bitch Im her student's student

Juls

You think so? Dont see many people talk about it tbh.

Jarren Jenkins

It could also be her very calm nature. The bird could probably sense she never was going to capture or harm it so it just hangs out. No doubt she can also suppress her mana but I think to get to the point Frieren has she'd need to live for hundreds of more years lol

Jarren Jenkins

That was years ago though, all of her loses have been far in the past. My evidence without spoiling? She's very much alive and much more powerful as we saw with Aura. What makes Frieren so strong is she learned from those loses. Besides, she wouldn't just say that normal magic is all you need against mages of this era for no reason. It would be one thing if Frieren was known to be arrogant, but she's not. She just knows what's up. She could already track Laufen the moment she used the spell to steal the Stille. She already sized up Denken and Richter the moment they showed themselves. She even knew they were watching her group. Along that, if things would go south for her team, Frieren would simply use much stronger spells that both Denken and Richter have never heard of before. Think all she's collected are grape spells and flower spells? C'mon bro. She also wouldn't have let them die. If there was even a chance of that, Frieren would have clapped both of them. THEY underestimated her because her fame isn't as well-known anymore. Crazy how 30 years can make people forget everyone but Himmel because of his statues lol.

Anderson Lake(The Bleach)

It's not about how far in the past they are. It's about the fact that someone technically weaker beat her. Which opens up the idea that other people "weaker" than her can beat her. Just as Frieren gets stronger so does humanity and people in general. The idea is that people who are "weaker" can beat people who are "stronger" and that includes frieren in either case. She can be beat and she can be out maneuvered. Frieren Is calm and collected. That doesn't mean her plans couldn't have failed.

Dune

I really like the aspect of magic they introduced this episode. That magic is based off what you can imagine. If you can't imagine yourself doing it it won't work. I hope that's something they paid attention to

Nathan Mathews

That is what is so great with this show, it develops into such rich world building that emphasizes feeling real and natural. The way that Frieren was taught to fight was to be underhanded for a reason, ending it quickly through blasting an entire area was literally what she was taught.

Jimmy

LOL, sorry if I offended anyone for assuming the fictional character's gender.

this guy was giving a proper explanation of how magic in this world works, and you missed the point entirely. I enjoyed the jokes but I hope you rewatch the lesson because they were very simple and easy to understand. this show is giving us realistic fights and yall still treating it like shonen

Ziggy

Or to plan for the plot armor the author has to give to keep them from soloing the universe
