I don't think he bought her out. He said she was so popular there was a bidding war for her, and she got too expensive. My theory is that he r worded her and got her pregnant to lower her value. And since he's such an important official in the emperor's court he got away with it.

I don't think he bought her out. It seems like she was a high-value courtesan and he got her pregnant to reduce her value because he was mad and that prevented her from being bought out because she was "worthless" since she wasn't pure anymore.

he didn't buy her out, the whole devalue strategy was to make her easier to acquire by making her cheaper either deflowered or pregnancy, also that guy hasn't seen maomao face to face yet, he's only heard about her being from the vadris house and having intelligence thus is reminding him of maomao's mom but hasn't made the connection without actually seeing her in person yet

Yeah it's better not to know, because simply by her knowing he's potentially not an eunuch & not busting his ass for that could mean she'd be executed as well for guilt by assisting in hiding someone isn't an eunuch despite knowing about it (theoretically, given the facts she has figured out etc)

You CAN'T do the gambit without the other party consenting tho, because since it's a red light district they could easily just abort the pregnancy literally instantly after said rape, so if a pregnancy becomes visible enough for it to ruin her value, that'd imply the courtesan also consented to it, otherwise the baby would have been fetus deletus'd w/ abortifacient
