I think the point of her character was being "the normal calm one" of the cast to juxtapose literally every other character in the restaurant. ( and emphasize the toxic ass working environment) I agree though, she doesn't really feel like a character as much as a plot device imo.

i always assumed that was definitely part of what her character represented but i still never understood how they managed to drop the ball (imo) in regards to that storyline. just the fact they’re able to write such good characters makes claire really stick out and not in a positive way unfortunately

Sydney getting attitude from seeing Clair is so funny to me. Like I know she was both upset and jealous, she definitely likes Carmy more than per usual especially when she said that her best meal she ever had was made by him. Carmy also hasn't really had his head in the water because he keeps on putting off the chaos menu which he said he would look over with Sydney, hasn't called back the fridge guy, hes kind of been fucking up tbh and so seeing the root of the fuck ups which is Clair must've really pushed Sydney over the edge like "Yeah???? i feel like that was the point of her yk? with the romantic “dead wife” lighting and the soundtrack behind their scenes, i feel like she was a plot device that set a clear divide between the camry we knew from s1 to past carmy. like in the next few episodes i think it becomes clear what type of character claire was supposed to be this season.

I get that her character can be a little jarring juxtaposed against the rest of the cast of characters, but I don’t find Claire to be a weak or poorly written character. Truth is, most of us have known girls exactly like Claire throughout life who actually talk and act exactly like she does. So it’s not unrealistic or flat writing. Its just different. 🤷🏽‍♂️ It may not ‘mesh’ with the way everyone else is written, but that’s obviously intentional. Even the way they film and light her scenes takes the manic-pixie girl vibe to a hundred; it’s meant to be an almost fantastical look into the life Carmie COULD have had, and her inclusion is a genuine shake up of the status quo in Carmy.

Def agree with the interest in Shameless reactions! Anddd the next ep 👀👀 Also I'm lowkey a bit surprised that it seems like there are so many ppl who hate Claire so much. I mean I don't really have any strong opinions on her, but I disagree with the idea that she seems super poorly written or anything (maybe she could b better, but shes not AWFUL, yk?) - its clear that she's quite different from the chaos of the others (and as some people have already mentioned, is ofc the point) but she still feels like a real person imo. Part of it also seems like a lotta people ship Carmy and Syd tho, which personally I really hope doesn'ttt happen,,like those 2 alreadyyy have so many damn communication issues and stuff just as they are now. I'm not under the impression romance would help that much. I lowkey hope they just work their shit out and stay friends - also just cuz I think it would be nice to have a partnership between a man and a woman thats just kept as a supportive friendship. (++maybe gives them just a bit of space between on/off the clock)

This episode is such a good pause to ep to come. Claire is just a different character living a different life to Carmy, one he could have shared, and one that is more of a real person stepping into the world of The Bear imo. She brings in a different atmosphere for Carmy's character. However, I find it unfair how Carmy is telling Syd she has to give it her all to make this place worthy of a star and care about it the most she ever has but then to not be in the present when he is needed most is a jerk move. NOT saying he doesn't deserve to be happy, cause he does, more that he communicates what is happening better to Syd and Sugar who are effective the heads of operations to make the Bear. Like bro handle Richie like they've been asking of you since the start of the season.

First few seasons were good before all the characters got super-flanderized. Frank almost dies from alcohol poisoning, gets a new transplant liver, and continues to be a shitbag alcoholic with no consequences. That's where I stopped. Lot of great actors and performances though.

If Claire looked at me like that I'd sell The Beef in 5 seconds and take a less stressful life cooking somewhere functional and actually enjoy life 🥴 She's gorgeous and gives Carmy so much understanding and kindness. They just aren't "interesting" together for a show with a continuing plot but in real life they would be a very good couple. The only issue is both their jobs mean they could have an issue finding time to spend together as things go on.

Ebra I have more empathy for cause he isn’t someone actively making difficult to create The Bear. I just wished he talked to Tina and Carmy/Syd earlier about how this training isn’t working for him.

god forbid there is ever just a respected, platonic relationship between a male and female character in a show without someone "shipping" them. She isn't jealous of Claire cus she has romantic feelings for Carmy, she was jealous and annoyed because she felt left out of the communication with Carmy, who was sharing insight with someone who wasn't even his partner in business. Theres no romantic connection and I'd be super disappointed in the writing if they force it later.

I think people's problem with Claire isn't even a reason they're aware of. It's the context that Claire shows up under. She's already in. She's close to the family, the friends. She knows Carmy. She's privy to a part of who Carmy is and his life and his family that we aren't and in almost a protective way, I think people see her and they're like "who tf is this girl to just show up and act like she's so important" when the reality is, she's always been important. But we didn't know her when we met everyone, and so folks feel like she doesn't belong. Like she's not a part of this and with everything we have seen everyone go through, it's like why does she get to come in and pull Carmy away from the whole point and also like...be happy with him? They feel like she's a distraction rather than something that could really add to Carmy in a way that may be what's missing for him to be a more effective leader and a happier person. He needs joy, and love and something outside of this and Claire could provide that for him and with something outside of The Bear stuff to alleviate some of the stress and trauma thats attatched to it, i think would be great for him thus great for the team as a whole. His nervous system needs something positive going on lol He is just a terrible communicator and he's very in his own head and anxious and it's to his and everyone else's detriment unfortunately. Claire isn't the problem. Carmy is. But no one wants to say that really lol also the Syd and Carmy shippers are mad asf lol
