IDK If you guys remember in Spy x Family episode 1 Loid sets a trap with flour. The bad guy tells his goons not to fire their guns because the place will blow up. Flour is extremely flammable.

Flour is indeed extremely flammable. It was also demonstrated in the beginning episodes of spy x family, when Anya got kidnapped. Remember when Loid hung bags of flour and the flour bags broke apart. The flour dust particles scattered in the warehouse and he threatened the official with it, I think. That's the only reason I was able to remember though to be honest otherwise I would've been just as baffled.

I think the person handing the pipe over was bribing the guard cause Maomao says that pipe was too good for a guard to normally afford when she was examining it, and when the guard went to test out his new pipe he went into the nearest building and then BOOM. That's my theory as far as the pipe goes. Also that guy with the monocle probably did figure out how the explosion happened but just didn't bother reporting because he wanted to test the others since he worked in the military building that Maomao was collecting herbs last episode.

@TrinitytheApostle because you have to use above X purity powder, and it has to fill up a specific amount of volume given the size of the enclosed container (so if you have open windows like in a kitchen, it won't work due to lack of compression to a tight enough space in vast quantity). Given the apparent size of the kitchen at the manor, no fucking way would 1 bag of flour be able to do shit. Seems far more reasonable to make a box like Maomao crafted to combust instead, eyeballing it. If Subaru had yeeted like 100+ bags of flour into the room it might have worked assuming he did the math correctly to the minimum combustibility quota

Fine powder ignition is definitely a thing. I know of plenty of cases, but one that comes to mind happened in Taiwan in 2015. There was some kind of large-scale party at a water park. Music’s bumpin’. The organizers dumped some colorful cornstarch. Something made a spark and set the whole crowd on fire.

Dust Explosions; I'm pretty sure you guys have seen it portrayed in other Anime before. Science goes crazy, because it's genuinely the simplest stuff in the world that will clap you the fastest under the right circumstance. All the same, I love it when Anime show it.

I did a flour bomb as a high school science experiment once. The explosion is even bigger if you use non dairy coffee creamer (Don't experiment that, it actually works)
