(Mass) Hysteria is an older term, which isn't really used anymore formally because the etymology refers to "the womb," and the term kind of implies it's a mental disease due to being a woman. It's still used in layman's terms, but the formal term is mass psychogenic illness. This is a little different from the shared psychotic disorder that was mentioned above. That refers to one person with a psychotic delusion imposing those delusions onto another such that they experience similar delusions. This typically requires two parties to be close to one another, or have a relationship in some way. Wheras that is, at least historically, not the case in mass psychogenic illness.
