Fun note, the original title of series “Sousou no Frieren” has a double meaning: First - “Frieren at the funeral”, in reference to her long life and her companions passing away Second - Roughly translates as “Frieren of funeral” or “Frieren who brings the funeral”, in anime translated as Frieren the slayer, which in reference to what demons call her for being such a big threat.

Could be wrong, but I think the reason they dipped was because 1) Priority was to grab him and alert the town 2) Only reason Fern got that hit off was because of Stark and he got injured.

I think Fern and Stark retreated since they had the mister with them and fighting the demons while protecting him would have been a liability.

The barrier actually did grow with the tree. Flamme figured out how to anchor spells to trees so that they’d grow as the trees did.

Fern’s and Frieren’s attacks seem to have cast time so fighting two demons close quarters with no element of surprise while guarding a severely injured person was not ideal. I can see why Stark wanted to dip but tbh Fern was at least ready to try.

22:25 TITLE DROP! "Sousou no Frieren" has multiple meanings! Frieren at the Funeral, Frieren the Undertaker, Frieren at the End, etc. She's killed so many demons that she got a Title for sending them to their funerals.

Someone probably already said, but the 2nd to last line (sousou no frieren) is basically a titledrop. It means Frieren the mourner/undertaker/burier. So frieren both attends her friends funerals and makes ones for demons.

Really like the usage of Stark and his inexperience once again coming into play here. He's sufficiently strong enough to fight that Lugner immediately reassessed his judgment to take him seriously. But, due to his own lack of confidence Stark is just too catious to want a direct conflict that he only restricted himself as a decoy to setup Fern.

I know the new name is more marketable and is still a good name. But "Frieren of the Funeral" was such a dope name with a nice double entendre of outliving and being the cause of many funerals.

Before anyone who's either forgetful, or wasn't paying attention tries to come for you for "spoilers". This was shown in episode 4 when Frieren, Fern and Eisen were looking for Flamme's grimoire. Lupa should have let himself cook. He had the right idea/remembered.

Yeah, but I’m guessing at some point someone else managed to alter the barrier somewhat? Cause why else would there be a family in charge of maintaining it? Also, I didn’t see a massive tree in the middle of the town, which is what you’d expect if that’s what the barrier was still connected to. So it kinda makes sense why they didn’t think that was the case

Lupa was totally cooking. The barrier grew in size with the tree. The grimoire was for controlling the barrier, that's how they modified it to allow the envoys in.

Came to the comments to say this, appreciate someone else did it. The double meaning reveal here was so good in the manga when the scan teams went with the literal translation and it's hard to convey with the official english title. It makes me wonder why they didn't just go with "Funerary Frieren" though I guess the alliteration might come off as cheesy to some.

well frieren lives so long, even if she learned one spell every 5 or 10 years, she'd learn like hundreds of spells over that time. plus after a while learning new spells becomes easier and easier as she gains so much experience in manipulating them. In other words, frieren is flexible with her spells while demons are over specialized with that being thier inherent weakness.

Fern shot big dude cuz they caught him off guard. They don't know what the other demon's ability is so they're probably wary of her, cuz she could probably draw out the battle until the guy heals. I think Fern trained to hide her magic at all times or something cuz I think they'd have noticed in the streets during last episode otherwise.
