Something I realized seeing Emma's mom and how she reminds me of Starlight's mom is just how fucked up all of the supes' parents must be. They ALL have to be shitty people in some way to inject their children with a risky and possibly fatal drug as infants and lie about it for years. They're all cash grabbing gremlins that want to profit off their child. It's probably a HUGE factor as to why most of the supes are assholes and are reckless with their powers. Almost none of them had decent parents, if any parents at all. And Homelander was the absolute worst case scenario of that, raised to be a literal product from the moment he was born.

I'm about 50/50 about what Cate said to Marie about not crying over her parents because on the one hand it's possible they gave her that drug expecting something out of her in the future but on the other hand we saw that they cared for her up until the point they died. It's understandable from Cate's perspective though because her parents gave her the power and basically resented her because of it. Either way the fact they were willing to inject a baby with Compound V is sick in and of itself.

If you give your baby a drug that could possibly kill them because you want to make money off them in 15 years, then you just cannot be a good parent. It's impossible. That's a full stop imo, even if they were about to be homeless it's not excusable. Even if they cared for her, they still made an extremely selfish decision that affected the rest of her life and left both their children traumatized forever.

You all need to watch a few medical dramas. It was a Lumbar Puncture being performed on Sam. They basically tap your spine for fluid to do testing (and experimentation in this case). This show is really well written and it’s amazing to me how dramatically it flips your perspective from the Boys. Watching the Boys, it’s easy to be like down with Supes but watching this show you’re really sympathetic to them. Probably because they’re kids. I wonder, with Andre and Maria being from Sabrina, if we’ll get Kiernan Shipka in a guest appearance.

100% agreed. We can only know the parents' perspective from what Marie knows of them so it's hard to tell what they were truly thinking. Plus I'm not trying to give the parents an excuse when I say this but I'm sure most of the parents thought their baby would grow up to be like Homelander or Maeve but they never really think of what could go wrong. Even in Diabolical we saw that one episode of defected supes getting back at their parents after they abandoned them.

Yeah their whole thing is that they’re both equally and sees both as themself but everyone else around them tries to tack on more weight to just one side I think the main reason we see them be in the feminine side more might really just stem from dealing with her parent’s shit for so long invalidating that one side so its like she’s trying to “catch up” in a sense

Nah it's not weird, friends should feel comfortable to say that. They just said it many times, and if one of them had kept saying that to a female character, it would make sense to suspect there may have been something between them at one point. They could also just be friends, it probably isn't important. I don't personally need it to go either way but I have seen several people make that assumption and the writers/directors rarely convey something by accident.

I guess roshi forgot everyone in this universe has super strength, super hearing, and super invulnerability regardless of their powers. There are supes like homelander who have more strength and invulnerability then the rest, but literally everyone with abilities has those 3 basic traits. That's why they said fire boy was "uncut" even tho he had fire power, his skin was invulnerable to the scissors when the doctor tried to circumcise him

Some of them don't, a lot of the ones with mental powers seem like they have normal durability. The guy that Soldier Boy, Huey, and Butcher hunted down in S3 got a knife through his face and seemed to die pretty easily, same with that Mesmer guy that Butcher killed in S1. I think Kimiko's brother was probably normal too, he was restrained by duct tape and seemed pretty physically weak. But yeah, probably 95% of them are at the very least bulletproof and able to lift a car.

theory: both emma and marie cause use their powers WITHOUT the self harm stuff but they havent discovered how yet. we literally saw marie manipulate that girl's blood so.... i feel like they are going to have to mature as individuals and then they can find less harmful ways to use their powers. seen at least three "blood benders" in comics and none of them cut themselves. they would just manipulate/use the blood in others' bodies. since she now knows she can control others' blood, if she really wanted to stop cutting herself, marie would focus on mastering THAT skill set. #therapyandhugs

Also Marie not knowing exactly what she's doing and her trauma with how she made her mom's body explode wouldn't feel comfy with blood bending people unless it was to save their life so she does need to cut herself incase action is needed but I think in the future when she becomes an actual hero with funds, she can stock pile her blood over time in easy portable capsules and containers so she doesn't have to cut herself and get light headed. I can see that happening.

Honestly, blame capitalism for this. Vaught made it too easy for people to cave into their base instinct of wanting a better life by giving anyone who has a baby access to getting this treatment done at the risk of not only their child but themselves due to how frequent these power manifesting accidents happen. I don't think Marie's parents were as shit as people think. In that flashback, Marie's powers never came and it looked like her parents still loved her and has a healthy and happy life. And when Marie's mom was dying, she showed nothing but concern for her daughter until she died. This is all just capitalism getting her paws on anybody desperate with how they Market themselves. It's a little too easy to to think low of the parents since we've seen nothing but all of the being horrible bit I wanna put Marie's on the not as shitty part of the list.

i didnt say she DID it, its just a theory of mine that she possibly can. like there is a mental block going on where she cant access that trigger without purging. its total headcanon, nothing they have shown in the show. i've seen people comics who have had similar issues where they had to do x to control their powers but through practice and training they were able to remove that handicap. ex: dream girl could only see the future when sleeping but through training she learned to see seconds to minutes into the future while awake. no longer needs to force herself asleep with pills! oh 90s comics

I'm sorry but no, "capitalism" can be a good reason for a lot of desperate behavior, including unsavory jobs and a lot of sacrifices in life, but it doesn't justify injecting your baby with a drug you know nothing about and then signing a contract to lie about it and then tell your child that their eventual powers were gifts from god. There are less than like 500 supes, and they're almost all American, so no, almost everyone else on the planet living under capitalism did not need to inject their child. That excuse might work for a security job at Vought when you know they are a shitty company or something like that. The very premise of what they are doing to their child is incompatible with being a good parent. The only excuse would be if Vought lied to them, but we know from Starlight's mom that they knew everything. That's why Starlight's dad left, he loved her but couldn't live with the guilt and lies. If Compound V was never leaked, and Marie's parents never died, they would repeat that same "gift from god" narrative, which is a super fucked up thing for a child's ego.

I remembered when Sheera said "one gender repels, and one absorbs." Something clicked for me. They are a dude in front of the parents, "taking" the dads verbal abuse, misgendering, etc. But flips to preferred appearance, when she gets "snarky"/ speaks her truth. When they are "big and masc", they can take damage. One would assume strong, but mostly tanks. But in their, preferred, "smaller" fem presenting gender, that's when they can manifest the offensive capabilities of her power. Both her powers and her life experience, force you to look deeper. Whether inter-personally or as an opponent. Want her to agree? have to understand her. "meet her where she's at" Want to defeat her? To strategize/ analyze her powers, which means, to not reject or underestimate what someone "with gender swapping abilities can do." Her power really, helped me understand how "quirks" manifest in this world. Same with other 2 female protags.
