Yall aren't crazy. This arc's pay off was garbage and Jr is a wasted character that could've had a great future in Baki. The final moment of Baki challenging his dad doesn't even hit as hard because they downplay Jr so much.

The whole point of the arc was to show it's not easy being in this world of fighting and they used someone like Jr who has a lot of potential to show you what you need to survive in it. Jr had to learn the harsh reality of fighting even if you're not at your best and to not make any excuses going into a fight. He was almost complete but the one thing he lacked was the will to risk his life while trying to take a life, with resolve like that he couldn't thrive in their world and Baki proved to be the personification of the perfect underground warrior.

He was prepared to kill but he wasn’t prepared to be killed in the fight, by the time he faced baki he had only learned half the lesson he should’ve learned from his prior fights. If he was prepared to die in the ring he wouldn’t have been nervous, he’d have a clear head & in turn would probably be able to counter baki’s attacks

For me personally I kinda thought it was obvious what they were doing so I kinda had a feeling that, that was gonna be the outcome cause it just felt to fishy because of all the hype they were giving him and throughout all that we didn’t see any Baki he was really chillin so my bar was already set low because I had an idea of what they were about to do. But yea definitely not mad about how you feel and objectively speaking I mostly agree with you.

Roshi you weren't wrong with your opinion. As someone who has seen this arc twice now the way they executed this was weak. Alai Jr did deserve to get his ass beat though for messing with Kozue instead of just hassling Baki until he agrees to at least spar against him. That and there was no lesson here, it just looked like everyone after jack was just getting their run back afterwards unfairly lol. They made him into a complete loser and SIMP instead of what I been hearing, an arrogant dude that just needed to be humbled and finally challenged Baki the right way. Either way as far I know they have yet to bring him back to show how he has changed. Baki was still cool because he wasn't fighting to kill until Jr dumbass made it clear that what he wanted.

About Jack's name, he went by Jack Hammer before the brother reveal, and the word transcribed in Japanese is also pronounced hanma. Not sure which do they call him after because I haven't see an untranslated page of the manga.

This arc was pointless fr, but honestly I enjoyed it because I found it hilarious. From what I've seen so far in the newer seasons(I'm not fully caught up), Jr hasn't appeared again, but he can have a nice redemption arc if the author chooses to (tbh he doesn't have to reintroduce Jr if he doesn't want to). I honestly like Jr as a character much more after this arc. Idk if jr will ever have that killer instinct, but I can see him becoming a much more capable fighter whose willing to put more on the line to get a victory. He loved winning more than he did fighting, but I think that may have changed after this arc. Everyone got their fair share of Ls in this show.

I mean it’s a fair question because since the meeting of Baki, Jr and Kozue in the park Baki hasn’t really shown much affection towards her. Even after he won he didn’t really care to converse with her or acknowledge that she was the prize. Imo I think only Jr saw her as the prize while Baki just wanted to fight like in the Ratai tourney

bakis opinion is everyone is free to make their own choices and dating is a 2 way street thus if kozue no longer wanted him she was free to pick someone else to date as he had no intention to change his plans, at the same time he does care for kozue and their relationship pops up periodically in future baki stuff but itagaki largely makes her a background character after this arc. Kozue later describes this interaction with the broken ali jr as being like his mom looking after him not romantic in any way and obviously his fight with jr involved some gruesome moves like the groin kick and the nearly lethal strangle hold thus her reactions during the fight.

Completely agree, the Alai Jr "mini-arc" was pretty unneccessary, but that's the kind of show 'Baki' is, with the random cutaways... part of me was hoping that someone would convince you guys to skip it and just start watching 'Baki Hanma' already since it's way better in the story.
