Basically all of shadow garden are "possessed" aka descendants of Olivie. They all were turned into those "mitty's" until Cid saved all of them. Also don't pay any mind to Cid thinking he big brain, my guy is just crazy and obvious to everything around him. Also the world isn't revolving around Cid, think of Ainz and its basically the same thing. Just bullshit luck has things lining up perfectly

In an early episode, they do say that the possessed are those who have the hero's blood. But yeah it's more likely that they're just those descended from the few children who were able to survive the experiments.

Also side note, nothing I said is a spoiler. Everything I said has been acknowledged in the show already. As for this not being "a world that revolves around Cid". They never talk about that ever even in the mamga or light novel. He just reincarnated that's it.

Yeah AFAIK there was at one point where we were shown the true full variant of the "statue", which shows THREE Heroes (an Elf, Human & Therianthrope), so clearly each of the Possessed is descended from each of those 3 Heroes based on their race & all that. We know that Cid is related to the Human hero for example, since Claire was originally supposed to convert into a Possessed, but Cid cured her like he did w/ Shadow Garden bitches, so the Cult kidnapped her in E2 cuz they were like "yo WTF why ain't this bitch getting turned into a blob????" cuz they didn't know that Cid did it (well based on dialogue by that 1 mook tier dude they eventually did figure out it was prolly Cid, since he was questioning Claire about why she ain't a blob already & all that)
