Shook

I'm still sad from the last episode

Shook

Intro is fucking lit tho

wavyesper

Tears in my eyes bro this adaptation is gonna be perfect😭 Oshi no ko def secured op of the year and one of the best eds of the year, the visuals were mind blowing man they are putting everything into this, the full version of the opening is better tho without a doubt, check out the opening mv by Yoasobi if u haven’t 🙏

wavyesper

KAANNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Champion Bescos

Naaaah man, two minutes in and Roshi be referencing the OG "Rock" Naruto OP. The nostalgia is too strong! 😭

Bria A.

Yo, the official MV for the Oshi no Ko OP (Idol by Yoasobi) goes ridiculously hard for no reason. 😭 You guys should really check it out, even if it’s just on your own time! Especially because they don’t use the entire song in the anime intro and the rap sections are fire.

Dolfy

I was saying that last time. They need to react to that shit

Unok457

With Sheera talking about what the puppet strings mean in the outro, I also think there’s more symbolism and hints. Aqua is going down the stair, likes he’s going to hell, while Ruby is going up and living. I also find it weird how Aqua is wearing a dark hoodie. Ai’s killer was wearing the same thing. I think it foreshadows that something bad is going to happen to Ruby since she’s becoming an idol. I only read up to this point in the manga, so I don’t know if I’m right.

MWS

Y’all gotta realise on top of seeing everything her mom went through Aqua also explained “if you do this you’ll hate your life, you’ll no longer be in control of your own life, people will despise you if you aren’t perfect in every way and you might get murdered just for being next to a guy” And Ruby just said “oh yeah, so?” like what? I wouldn’t let my sister do that either Ruby is still just a kid, even with her additional 12 years of age she’s very immature even compared to her current life peers. She’s blinded by the idea of stardom, she’s so obsessed with the goal she doesn’t realise she’s gotta walk over fire to get to it (I guess a better way of saying it is she knows she’s gotta walk over fire she just doesn’t know how badly fire burns)

Anonymous

If you didn't know, one of the mangakas for the manga is the same one who wrote Kaguya-Sama

Kingmakaii

I understand aqua wanted to protect his sister but I agree with sheera this not to life bro you can’t be doing shit like that

Boom

The episode was fast

twinuzis

yo that ending had a lot of flags im not liking it😭😭

Anonymous

Yeah after everything that happened there's no way in hell i'm letting my sister go through that lmao

Jeremiah Wagner

I agreed with Sheera too but the more I think about it the more I wouldn’t want my sister doing something like that either after what we witnessed

Champion Bescos

Facts. Old boy might be a bit too protective of her and his actions may seem obsessive, but given everything that's happened already and Ruby's indifference or ignorance to it all, his deeds are almost justified. Sometimes you have to be the bad guy to protect the ones you love from themselves, but it's definitely a slippery slope.

DANIEL PEREZ

as always I love anime that ends and you ask yourself why it ended so fast so much happened we got more info but more questions show up.

Jose

Lupa is 2 for 2 in Chapelle references, will it continue next week? Stay tuned to find out!

AnimeCam

Aquamarine :i stalk the stalkers

Devin B

It does seem wrong for Aqua to keep interfering in Ruby's life like that but Aqua feels that strongly about Ruby not being an idol not only because of Ai dying but because before that he got killed by the same stalker that killed Ai. He knows firsthand how dangerous it could be when someone is that obsessive over people with that idol status and Ruby is fixated on being an idol because she wants to live the life she couldn't live in her previous life. To me it just seems like Aqua is looking at things in a more serious manner while Ruby is being optimistic.

Hasnain Khan

Yehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Bria A.

I understand that Hoshino isn’t a rare surname by any means but you’re really gonna tell me they had three whole Hoshinos under the same production company and not a soul in the public (minus stalkers) raised some questions? 😭 Even with them getting transferred to the company president’s family register they still clearly kept their original family name, so what is going on there. (And yes, I know the doctor was suspicious of the stalker because Ai’s family name wasn’t publicized at the time, but like…they had to have published it after her death. They had to. That, plus probably like less then ten minutes of internet searching would get you the answer.) This on top of the obvious appearance thing, but at least I could chalk that up to anime genetics and anime logic lmao.

Devin B

It's a tough situation but the only reason I'm leaning towards Aqua more is cause Ruby doesn't seem like she's fully taking everything in consideration. She might be listening to the negatives of being an idol but she's more focused on trying to be like Ai and living the life she couldn't live before. Aqua is just being more realistic about the chances of harm coming towards Ruby if she were an idol but people like Ruby feel like the chance is worth it if they can live out their dreams.

Homeskilletbiscuits

I had the same reaction as Roshi to the ED. I was jamming to the song and then then flashbacks with Aqua sitting on the ground came on and my mood plummeted.

2023-04-20 02:36:13 J-pop is actually a very interesting genre. it borrows a lot from american pop and its got a good mix of hip hop, pop, and rap. its biggest strength is lyricism and vocal talent while its biggest weakness is production, they aren't very good with music production and can overproduce. a good example of that is the first spy x family op had so much random shit just thrown in that didnt fit

Tanya

Even after Ai's death, her family name wasn't publicized so no one knows Aqua and Ruby are her kids

lyssa

Yo they finally watched an ED for a show 😭

Bria A.

Fr? She’s just gonna have a mononym for her entire existence? Wild lmao, but thanks. I didn’t feel like going back to check if the news reporter said “Ai Hoshino” or something like “B Komachi’s Ai”.

Ped

They said B Komachi’s Ai. Her last name was never revealed because well her personal info wasn’t something they wanted out there. So the kids can use the name Hoshino safely

Panda

Aqua is heavily focus'd on the downside of it, in his mind he only saw their situation and not other celebrities' who were capable of dealing with it. So he is also hyped focus'd on the idea of it always playing out this way with no other way, like the possibility of ruby being emotionally stable enough to deal with that type of pressure(like her mom was in some regards herself). Not that i think its something everyone can do, but its also not something you know you can or couldn't be able to do until you really experience it. He is also in his head that by protecting her from this specific career path it will result in her living in a better life, but in reality it could also cause her to spiral due to her fixation on living up to her moms expectations(just like aqua with being an actor).

XORT GAMING

imagine you die and reincarnate in too Chrisean rock & Blue face baby 💀 there better not be any coins, legos or anything toxic materials near me cuz im definitely ending my self asp

Luke Evans

To be fair her mom was killed by a Stalker and Ruby's catchphrase is "I'm Going to be like Mom" this could mean she too will be killed by a stalker

PersonaFyde

Yen in comparison to dollars moves over two decimals so the Underground Idol makes around $1,000 or somewhat less. Korean Won is closer to 3 decimals.

yoongi

the only death the sister knows is her own death in her past life

earthphoenix7068

not the forever smoke, its on sight

plug-in panda

the other difference between the two at the end as well is that ruby didnt see anything that happened on that day whereas aqua literally watched the light leave ai's eyes

Paden Snell

like the manga quite a bit and the sdaption so far is stellar. but its hard when i just fundamentally find i the whole

Olemgar

I don't know if it was intentional or not but I like the detail that whenever Aqua is serious or in a bad mood, the star in his eye is completely dark, but whenever he feels hope or is happy (like that scene when the director comforts him) his stars becomes white, just like it was when he was a kid.

Alex Omega

100,000 yen = $741.34

Oax Al

Let's go! I'm buckled up for the long haul.

namnas

I binged the whole manga in 2 days, catching up today, and yall are in for peak

reese's puffs

Lmaoo I had dejavu when Roshi called out the eye in the title. He was the same person that pointed it too

EmoBurrito

Yeah the main characters motivation isn't really doing it for me. So you're gonna become a whole edge lord and dedicate your whole life to getting revenge because the idol you liked got killed in front of you? Like be for real, this guy knew Ai in a personal level for like a year only, but he is going this far for her? I know he was some dude who was really into idols and especially her but still. To build a whole revenge story over something so meh doesn't seem organic, it seems pretty contrived for me. Ill give this show the 3 episode rule, see if it actually catches my attention.

Anonymous

i mean he.was a superfan for 2 years then was raised as her child for 3/4 years, then to watch your mother get killed in front of you is crazy

Denickart

She's also kinda his mother now and the guy that got her killed also got him killed

Denickart

Did these guys not have families in their past lives? You'd think they'd at least try to find out how they're doing by now.

EmoBurrito

The guy had a whole life, before he got reincarnated and remembers all about it. Yet he's going to dedicate his whole life to his "MOM" that he only knew in a personal level for a few years? Again I'm not buying it, it seems way to force for me. And hey, if you can get behind that motivation , then good for you. I personally just can't get behind it.

Jalani Abdul-Aziz

no disrespect but L take imo. that was his mom that he actually grew to love on a son like standing instead of being a superfan (which he only became because of his patient that was his friend/he valued her life so he kept her fandom in his heart). He was also literally killed by the same 2 scumbags so it's pretty warranted. They took his life first then his happiness.

EmoBurrito

Them taking his life is a moot point. Their was no indication that he was going to dedicate his life and become a edge lord because of that. It ONLY happen when his "mom" died.

Stevetheiguana

He didn't have to watch himself die so to speak, it was over pretty fast, unlike having to watch Ai bleed out. He even thanks the killer earlier in the show, as it gave him the opportunity to be reincarnated and enjoy life as Ai's child, hence why he didn't give much thought to tracking down the killer until after. It is not uncommon for people to go to great lengths for loved ones in both fiction and reality. As far as the timeline goes, he had been watching Ai for about 4 years as a fan before they met, knew her briefly as the Doctor, then was her child for about 4 years and of course became very close. You're viewing this as a bad motivation because you're viewing Aqua's relation to Ai primarily as a detached fan, and negating that in life she is his actual mother, not a fake "mom" as you are suggesting. Despite the odd super-natural circumstances, it would be natural to become very attached to Ai over the years, especially considering how obsessed he was with her already. Aqua also superimposed the image of Sarina (Ruby) over Ai from the beginning, which is a big part in his feelings as well, as to him, they are both dead now.

Danny

I think Ai's death was what reminded him that there was someone far more sinister out there. Because rmber, the killer was a crazy stalker fan. He wasnt so mad at him, even after the stalker killed him AND Ai. Plus the dude suicided. But he realized that there has to be a mastermind, someone who was feeding him information from the shadows. Someone who hasnt been caught or known. Thats his real motivation. Obviously he wants justice for Ai. And plus this was a 2nd life to him. He lived a good portion of his early years as a doctor. What, hes going to take the same route again and become a doctor a 2nd time? I aint trying to watch a dude try to become a doctor in a 2nd life no thank you. And 3 years is not a simple amount of time. You dont need to be with someone for decades to have an attachment to them. Especially when he idolized her to begin with. It all adds up only because of the special circumstances. It would be weird if he was a child who had these thoughts. But he has the IQ and thought process of a grown man. Hes carrying a grudge for this unknown perpetrator that ruined his first life, Ai's life, his 2nd life and those around him. You think that isn't enough of a reason to seek revenge on a dude that literally ruined ur life twice??? If you want to hate, go hate but at least find a better reason. Because his motivation for revenge is justified

Edd R

Wait so does the director know that aqua is Ais son?

Most Sane Oreimo Fan

Nah mate, sorry to let you know but you got an L to take right here. The amount of time you spend with someone shouldn't be the basis of whether he should be that attached to Ai to go that route. Just remember, even though he is a reincarnate, he lived most of his reincarnated life as Ai's son. The first episode ended with him almost deciding that there's no reason to live anymore since he pretty much made up his mind on his first death that it was his time and him being reborn as Ai's son is much more like a bonus stage for him but when he realized that the stalker is just someone that somebody else was controlling and there could be a lot bigger person who is behind the scenes, he decided to continue his life to make sure Ruby grows up safely and to do that, he needs to take care of the loose ends that Ai's death left which is their father. It's not that hard to understand that by the end of the last episode ain't it? People just be hating because of reasons when it's not really justified. Yes, he could've done it a lot easier and less self-destructive but at this point, he doesn't care that much about himself anymore. Saying more than that is already a spoiler zone for the manga so I'll just leave it at that. It's just an L take fr. Just say it's not for you and move on and no one will judge you for it. Just don't make any more L takes man, it's just sad to see.

Percival

Aside from the traumatic death scene, I remember in the previous ep, Aqua mentioned that Ruby would probably bounce back from Ai's death. He seemed doubtful that he would bounce back because he already had died once and Ai is no longer in his world. Whether his time was short or not with her, Ai meant the world to him. If I recall, Aqua had established at the very beginning that he would enjoy living as Ai's son and watching over her. However, his purpose was taken away from him. The realization that there is a mastermind out there that responsible for his previous death, Ai's suffering, and her death is substantial. He wants justice against the person that ruined his past life and this life

EmoBurrito

@danny You'll keep bringing up the fact that their is a killer our there and crazy staker etc. BUT he didn't care UNTILL his "mom" died. Such a moot point to bring that up, when it was ONLY relevant after the death of his "mom". His motivation is literally revenge for his fake mom, LIITERALLY stated by him. Yes an IQ and thought process of an adult who was literally infatuated with an idol who didn't even know him. Very high IQ. Bro you keep mentioning his keeping a grudge that ruined his first life? YET he wasn't a edge lord or literally declare he was going for revenge UNTILL the "moms" deaths. Idk why everyone keeps making this point, its terrible. Yeah my reason is good enough, don't be so pretentious.

Oisif

@EmoBurrito I understand where you're coming up, if you look at it as a perspective of a normal person, as someone who was NEVER into idols (koreans or japans) it might really feel weird and off putting seeing this level of dedication from the fans, to the point that his WHOLE life is centered around a certain idol. But that's just one of the perspectives. There actually exists fans whose life is centered around an idol even in real life that he stabbed his idol (in Hong Kong if I'm not wrong), so if you see our MC in that level of fanaticism, you'd understand his perspective of how he's willing to sacrifice his whole future to get revenge for her. And honestly time is irrelevant to how important someone can be to someone else. I have a friend that went to school with me from middle school to work which is like 12 years now, but we only talked casually. And I have a friend that I've only been with for 3 years but my friendship with him is much deeper than the 12 years one. In summary, it does feel organic, it's just a matter of perspective.

Oisif

anime rules, parents doesn't exist unless they show themselves

EmoBurrito

@Most sane so cringe man, nothing constructive, just "L takes". Likening Oreimo is a huge L take. Probably say wincest unironically.

Hello

Ignoring the visuals for sec, that ending song freaking slaps lol

Erica Collins

I was just thinking about this. It's probably the classic trope where they're either dead or they weren't close so they're like "Forget them I got a new family now" lol but the real question is why is it that in shows like this, the MC just forgets about their family?? In a situation like this as soon as I can walk & talk I'm immediately looking for my family & telling them what happened 😂

Percival

Hard to say without knowing their backstories. Could be one of those common tropes. There was only like one frame right when he died which showed him in middle-high school with an old lady in a photo. Just from that, it seems that this old lady may be the one who solely took care of him, but it makes me wonder if she had passed away before he became a doctor considering the time the photo was taken. He also mentioned that he feels depressed thinking about his previous life, so there could be a reason I wish they would get into

Chocobo

100,000 = 1,000 "If its in YEN, take off two TENs" Always remove 2 zeroes for Yen to USD.

Chocobo

100,000 = 1,000 "If its in YEN, take off two TENs" Always remove 2 zeroes for Yen to USD

Devin B

It has to be intentional cause last episode before Ai met with her manager her eyes were dark because she was contemplating if she can love without being genuine but when he told her she can pretend she saw an opportunity to her eyes lit up. It's probably a family trait.

Danny

@emoburrito i mentioned that in my comment that he only thought of the potential "mastermind" after Ai's death. the first time, he didn't think very deeply on it because he didnt know who the stalker was. unlike the 2nd time where the stalker was identified on the public news, he realized that he was just some high schooler and so Aqua was suspicious on how he was able to track down Ai TWICE. Once could be coincidence but twice? Thats how he pieced together that there must be someone out there, close to Ai, who has been purposely feeding this one dude info to sabotage and hurt Ai. Someone who is still at large and unknown and all the blame is only focused on this one kid whos already dead. Like I said, hes not hunting for the stalker, hes hunting down a "mastermind" who planned this homicide. Its one thing if the stalker was working alone but he realized it was far more worse that it could be their own "father".

kaeleb white

it gets addressed way later on in the manga what happened with their prior families

JsnSkg

EmoBurrito out here with some weird-ass logic, and not making any sense at all. You do you, which means you should drop it right now, because you're mind is already set. Do the community and yourself a huge favor and kindly fuck off to an anime you actually enjoy. :) Which, I can't imagine being anything, because you seem like the miserable type who's nitpicky af and doesn't enjoy a single damn thing lmao. Pathetic.

Argo2Unitard

But this is literally her second chance at life, there's 0 reason for her to play it safe, being a kid doesn't matter at that point. If she wants something after being born into talent and privilege, she would be dumb to not pursue it.

Tyrone Arcega

Is the outro singer same for the Op of dororo

lyssa

Pretty sure he does he wouldn’t mention AI so much around him if he didn’t know

Mervyn Larrier

While the general rule is to move over two decimal places, the actual current exchange rate has it that Y100,000 is actually about $743.

Luke Evans

I like how it seems like the show is setup to be like a movie so far, I am waiting for the next episode to see where it begins and I might even watch both this episode then the new episode to see how it feels

Huemon Nottabear

Just a point, Sarina was 12 when she died, Ruby is now 15, she's been Ruby longer than she was Sarina. So that life doesn't mean as much to her.

Mervyn Larrier

Exactly. She has had appx. 27 years of experience thus far, but 15 is also the oldest she's ever been. Two lifetimes as a child is all she knows. But she's also experienced death herself, so I can't say I agree with her not understanding the weight of death. It was always just a feature of their personalities: he was the cynic and she always tried to look on the bright side of things. So their response to Ai's death make sense, especially considering Aqua was in her arms as she died.

Hello Darkness

The group who did this OP also did the 2nd Season OP for Beastars. You can tell they sure like their synth bass riffs.

Alexander Szabo

Bruh Roshi YOU said that it’s the eye in title last episode 😭😭

Alexander Szabo

I mean u guys said it yourself last episode. Aqua went through a really traumatic experience. His trauma is showing. Of course he wouldn’t want his sister to follow the same path as Ai, seeing how she ended up. Doesn’t mean he’s in the right, but his reasons are clear and understandable.

Alexander Szabo

Aqua also layed in Ai’s arms when she bled out and died. Compared to Ruby, whom could only listen through the door and imagine. Which is terrible as well. It’s just terribly traumatic all around 😭

Guns

Fun fact: the artist of the opening song (YAOSOBI) is the same artist who made the openings for beastars

MWS

Panda, Aqua literally explains in this episode, there are very few Pros compared to cons, you get payed shit and don't get to enjoy your private life and all your job is is lying to people and making a bunch of 30 year old incels happy until they find out you've got a boyfriend and want to kill you

HIM

Correction: YOASOSBI made then 2nd Beastars OP. Not the first. Shouts to ALI.

WeavyBoo

4:25 I mean if it's American Idol she wins bc she's got a fantastic sob story

D D

One more thing to really consider from Aqua's POV is that not only did he watch helplessly as Ai was murdered, but he was probably also found with her body. Meaning he likely felt the heat leave her body as he sat covered in her blood. He could write a book on PTSD after that.

Gilthwixt

Red strings are normally associated with fate i.e. being tied to a destiny, see: Your Name. So while the puppet string motif might be valid I think the actual implications are that one way or another Aqua is bound to Ai, Serina/Ruby, and this dark path of his.

Gilthwixt

He met AI and Aqua at the same time on his movie set and knew they were close, he was even at the funeral. That doesn't mean he actually knows.

ogking31

So after 1 episode it went from good to mid?

GigaDirt

its 1 episode, 1 episode does not turn the entire show around

Relic

Lol I still found this episode to be top tier, obv slower cause this was the first episode that wasn't a prologue.

Zuku

my guy the first episode was exposure episode, after the massive amount of info they're slowing down ofcourse

Phroug

I wish the MC of Mushoku Tensei was more like this, then maybe then I wouldn't have to watch a grown man get horny around kids

The3scalader

Not saying the beginning doesn't have weird parts, but as someone who was initially doubtful and was pushed to read the LN, I can say that none of the beginning weird parts are recurring later. And most importantly, the story becomes absolutely fantastic if you didn't already like it with the anime. Rudy grows into a fantastic MC, and you can see at least someone what why they made him so unlikable in the beginning. The events that occur later force him to mature, and I don't mean like mature like in the turning points you see in the anime.

Shiroja

Yeah I need more of this show off to read the manga

lyssa

That’s your favorite word isn’t it 😭

godUsoland

It gets addressed much later on what happened with both of their families. Chapter 75. Considering the anime has adapted the first 13 chapters so far, it'll be a while.

Losalma

Did you guys know that the one that sing's the ending is the same dude that made the Dororo Op?

MM

Kpop has all that plus great chorea and dancing!!

X

Guess somebody already pointed it out, though 100,000 JPY is closer to 1,000 USD than 100 USD lol.

Justice

Man if Fina become ayanakoji

Luffy_77

I'd argue she does know the weight of death given that her whole past life revolved around her surviving death at every corner until she died

Daniel Borrego

its still kinda up in the air if the star in thier eyes are literal or some kind of metaphore for the viewer. so if thier eyes are just normal, then theres basically no way you'd figure out they were her kids.

dash12321

I believe that even before his death as a doctor, he had mentioned how he had gotten to see a glimpse of ai's real personality (least more so than her fabricated idol one) and had said he quite liked her straightforwardness. And then he spent 3-4 years in close, intimate contact with her. If anything, I feel like ruby and aqua are the two who truly know and understand ai the most. I think that he truly grew to genuinely love ai, not in a romantic way or as an idealized idol
