there’s a difference between o and the korean character ㅇ — you can have the “o” sound in a korean name without actually using that character (it’s either a silent character or the “ng” sound). but you’re right. i like the theory that the shaman is kind of a hack (last ritual aside) and it was just one of those vague warnings to stay away from bad influences in general.

lmaoooo, you were still right though,ㅇ is pretty common in korean names so it could very well have been one of those predictions that’s just vague enough to fit anyone’s situation. but i also like the minor supernatural / divine punishment element so that shamanism wasn’t completely written off as a pointless religion even if this specific shaman was mostly running cons for money.

I think it's more so If you were an awful person and both you and your child committed a murder would you be willing to accept your punishment or make your child face their punishment. Park's mom is partly at fault due to how she raised her daughter so it can be seen as being a good parent if Park's mom accepted the consequences of her own actions for murdering and enabling her daughter's bad behavior in the first place. Like if you were a good parent/person and disciplined your child and they still turned out to be a shithead, nobody would think you were a bad parent for letting your murdering child go to prison.

you do know she was aware of her involvement before right? Like she helped her daughter back right when it happened. She never cared what Yeon-jin did, she even told her she should’ve “taken care” of any other problems. So idk if you’re making some different point or what, but it’s different when your intentions aren’t to punish your daughter but to save yourself.

Sa-ra is a classic example of how batshit insane addicts can be. They WILL hurt you if they’re pissed at you, even if they consider you a friend (or once did), and it is VERY easy to piss them off, especially during withdrawals. Hye-jeong was playing with fire and she got burned, badly.

I was super confused about the shaman scene on my first watch too. But basically, the shaman in an earlier episode said speeding up someone’s death will get you cursed but she took the 1 billion won and sped up a death anyways(miss kang’s husband). She was cursed and died on the spot here. I think it’s a dumb scene to add to a otherwise relatively grounded show, but ehh.. it is what it is 🤷🏻‍♂️

I think the daughter did know about him not being her bio dad. When she was talking to her mom she said she had already read everything that was being said about her. I think that's why she was saying sorry. Also, Park telling her husband it was over when he decided to meet up with Moon is laughable. It was over when you decided to have a child with your high school boyfriend and tried to play it off as his.

i agree when you put it that way. yeon jin's mom would partially be a good parent if she accepted accountability in enabling her bad behavior, covering up the crime, and hitting ms kangs husband. i was just disagreeing with sheera. that's kind of enabling her more, with thinking she can still get away with things.

I dont doubt that kingdom is good, but.....the 3rd korean show/movie involving zombies? All of us are dead wasnt THAT long ago, and the last of us just ended like about a week ago (not korean, but even more zombies) I wouldn't mind either way but.........perhaps after an anime season or 2 first? Also after some more kdramas of different genres? (Its starting to become a trend.....)

1. At first, the shaman pretended she is possessed by the spirit of Sohee. It's like necromancy thing in Korea. That's why Dong-Eun who forced the shaman to do it, is standing there and watch it. Probably, she must have let the shaman know about the name tag. Which is why she was just watching. Maybe Dong-Eun did this to scare Yeon-Jin and ruined her relationship between the shaman. But things started to go differently what Dong-Eeun intended. 2. Weirdly, the shaman started to say about her clothes. (She tried to take off what she is wearing like she is real Sohee) which Dong-Eun never knew about. I think, in this moment, sohee's sprit possessed the shaman for real. The shaman was not a complete scammer. That's when Dong-Eun's eye started to shake. 3. Now the shaman started to see the spirit of Sohee and describe her accurately. The shaman tried to kick the spirit out but failed and died because of beoljeon(벌전: sacred spirit's punishment. In korean shamanism they believed that shaman must use their power for right thing or sacred spirit the shaman served, must punish them. That's beoljeon). She got what's comming to her. Dong-Eun felt sohee's presence at that moment and cried because she realized that sohee have always been with her and protected her. At the same time Dong-Eun felt sympathy because she knew Sohees spirit still exist in suffering. 4. About the talisman put on Yeon-Jin's mom face,It's not a talisman. It's like ancestral tablet. A name of sacred spirit is written on it. In this case the name is "서방경신 백호신장(Sacred white tiger, guardian of western who has power of metal)" In Asian traditional religion, they believed that the white tiger has power and take a role of punishing and slaying evils. That scene suggests that the tiger's eyes on Yeon-Jin's mom and she going to be punished.

Kingdom is a good period piece, even with the zombies. I think a better fit to get introduced to Korean period pieces would be 'The Fortress', which is a masterclass about the stress of being an emperor trapped in a fortress and surrounded by a Mongol Khan's forces. I would think The Fortress would be a fantastic starting mark for that kind of stuff. Also, if they haven't seen it, they ABSOLUTELY gotta see Marco Polo! All these historic shows have such amazing development and plots.
