Ketil is giving off major Hercules/King vibes

For those who are interested in reading along with the manga, this episode adapted the entirety of chapters 66 to 67. In regards to the passage of time (the manga is more explicit about the dates) during this episode it’s supposed to be November 1015, so about a month has passed since the previous episode. A bit of historical trivia for those interested, for Scandinavian farming families during the Viking age, the custom was for eldest sons to be sent off to war while the younger sons would inherit the farming lands. Hence why Ketil cares about Olmar inheriting the farm, and not Thorgil. Arnheid being a comfort-woman/sex-slave to Ketil was also relatively easy to guess when she originally first introduced herself in episode 3 as Ketil’s “personal attendant”. And yeah, the fact that Ketil is so attached to her definitely implies that she likely has no option to buy her freedom, and likely expects to be a slave for life. Also if ones can recall, even Einar was eyed by potential buyers as a sex-slave in episode 1 (though it was more explicit in the manga where the potential buyer even grabbed Einar’s junk as part of the “inspection process”). This series also does a good job of depicting how the harsh social mores and norms of the time existed and why they existed (that even despite the harshness they also weren’t completely arbitrary in their existence). Hence, why even Pater and Snake were insistent on the children receiving a form of corporal punishment, so they would avoid having the stigma “unpunished thief” permanently attached to them.

The plot is thickening after that last scene

It makes sense why the mistress is hard on Arnheid, she didn't care about her taking her time she only cared about her giving the yams to the master.

Cody

Which sucks because Arnheid doesn't have much choice in the matter.

Please react to The Eminence in Shadow! Pleaseeee its such a good funny action show, I honestly believe all three of you would enjoy watching it. It has great fighting scenes and the MC of the show is honestly so great.

Greg Harrison

Please don't react to The Eminence in Shadow! Pleaseeee its such a bad dry boring show, I honestly believe all three of you would hate watching it. It has bad fighting scenes and the MC of the show is honestly so bad. Just kidding but stop spamming bro

Ketil isn't technically scared of Thorgil just because of his harshness but its also what he has become that is scary. He is scared of having to punish young children because he is a soft and kindhearted person. I already read the manga but simply from this episode you can see how much of a brutal asshole Thorgil is. Dude is a prick. The thing he is feeling with Thorgil is that his own son has somehow turned into a heartless scumbag. I would respect and like a guy lying about his own past to make him look better than someone who has no kind of emotion or understanding at all. Funny how Thorgil acts tough but Thorfinn could blitz the fuck outta him if he wanted to.

Ketil definitely took over to make sure the kid wasn't too badly injured. Ketil couldn't look weak so he had to do it good enough but if Thorgil continued like that the kid would have either had multiple broken bones or potentially just have died because Thorgil is the asshole who won't hold back on a defenseless kid even after they told him to

Lamaree Jackson

Not Sheera gaslighting y’all about the chicken 🤣🤣 “need y’all to get it under control”

slipHAZARD

I'm pretty sure he was just holding the chicken like that to rip off one of the legs. But it is a strange way to go about doing it 😂

Surnames came about after the bubonic plague. Surnames were used only by the nobility. When the black death spread across Europe and England there was a extreme shortage in people to work the land. The solution the landowners came up with was to entice people to move away from their settled areas to come and farm their land. Surnames was then handed out to them so that they'll be no confusion among workers who had the same first name. I'm guessing that's the reason why the brother and sister have to be taken in by another family. I could be wrong.

Ketil can't act like that in front of his sons, it's a matter of time before they start punking their father ngl

Trashthlete

If it helps, the Black Death is roughly 300 years after the events of Vinland Saga.

ok
