wish we coulda seen some more cool stuff from Brain

Comments

Gabriel Mehl

They already did an Reaction too that a while ago just need to scroll down a while

Shawn Oxley

I'd love to see the convo of "We only jumped and poisoned you because we care about you" also RIP my man Brain he deserved much better but he did still make Cocytus alter his path out of respect

MuteSpittah

It's probably already been addressed but i'm lazy to read comments. Cocytus went around Brain because he showed respect to a warrior who was willing to lay his life down to protect those people. So instead of crushing through him, he respectfully went around, because even in 'Hagakure', it states that a warrior should die face up, facing his enemy, Never face down because that is a death of dishonor, and disgrace. Brain went out the only way he could for his powerlevel, and still Cocytus acknowledged him. I thought it was actually very well done.

Isaac

Can't believe there's only one more left. I missed this show

DatKid_Kaneki

bro once he said “god slaying sword” i wouldve been GONE, wdym god slaying sword??? do i look like a god to u

ElswSwine68031

RIP Brain but you gotta admit Cocytus has a lot of fucking respect for warriors if he went through the trouble of walking around a house even after freezing his body

Smitty Werbenjagermanjensen

That's one thing about OverLord. Don't matter who they up against, they will just rekt them. This show don't need plot armor.

Normadus

half of episode wasted on pointless talk with adventurers . At least EvilEye and the rest made the correct decision to get the fuck out of there ,instead of committing useless suicide to look heroic or whatever

Mozart Waddell

I don't even know why they bother with buffs at this point. I did like how Cocyutus honored him as a warrior. The intro made it look like this was going to be an epic drawn out fight. The guardians are too much.

David Hilton

I think Cocytus going around Brain was a sign of respect.

Orion Clement

Everyone talking about the fact he walked around him but not just how significant that is. The other guardians would kill him if they found out. Brain was a solitary warrior against an army of individuals at LEAST 40+ levels above him, 70+ in Cocytus's case. He was the last line of defense for the entire kingdom. Yet still he stood, still he fought, still he proclaimed the Sorcerer Kings army would not make it past him. Cocytus respected that wish, and respected his honor. The entire army of the Sorcerer Kingdom did not make it past Brain. They went around. That would be seen as disrespectful to Ainz by the other guardians

Ads

cocytus going around brain and the small area behind brain not being covered in ice was one of the most respectful moments ive ever seen. feels

Zeraph

Saw someone say this on a thread. Brain actually surpassed gazeff in his last moments with all those potions, He hit lv.40(after consuming the potions) which is apparently makes him a hero and was one of the strongest humans(for a couple seconds☠️).

Kevin Kovacs

It felt like 5 minute ep maybe that's why you felt like it was "wasted" but still the best ep of the season.

Bryce Jackson

Nah they wouldn't its what his creator would of done. Ain't none of hem onna argue with that. Ainz said destroy the capital he didn't say how. Its cocytus thinking for himself which is what ainz wants

Anonymous

Cocytus basically did a detour. To achknowledge Brain with the idea of "You've held this ground"

Bad Karma

In the novel the buffs were alot more relevant to the plot, since they essentially boosted Brain's level to be level 40 (to be considered a Hero you have to be lvl 25). This made him the strongest human in the world temporarily, which is why Cocytus was geniunely surprised someone like him was there. For further context: Cocytus's anti-damage buff only blocks attacks that are under a certain lvl (lvl 40 exactly iirc), but Brain was still able to actually physically touch Cocytus. With the temporary power boost + his own martial arts, Brain essentially gained the ability to bypass the passive defense skill of one of the Floor Guardians of Nazerick, something no human character has ever done.

Amzee

Info lost from episode 11-12 vis a vis the light novel: - That is the dragon we saw in the beginning of season 2. We even saw his remote suit of armor next to him. we also saw him challenge Shalltear in a flashback when she was under mind control, and he confirmed that he could not beat her. In the novel, Pandora's actor estimated his power to be around level 80-90 (not strong enough to beat a guardian but still a threat to basically everyone else in nazarick, there are only 9 lvl 100 NPC's). Plus Riku said he was holding back. - there are already many signs that there were players in the past like Ainz pointed out, with the 8 greed kings and the 6 great gods, that always happened in 200 year interval, with the most current interval being now with Ainz. The last time they came (200 years ago), a group called the 13 heroes fought them. Amongst those 13 heroes was a platinum guy and Evileye. Yes, Evileye. This part of the story was completely ignored in the anime but Evileye is actually a vampire, over 250 years old who already fought players in the past. That's why in season 2 she knew of the existence of 10th tier magic and magic beyond that and why she was a big threat to Entoma (all the maids are basically lvl 50). Even Demiurge pointed out that the people in Evileye's team are far weaker than her. - Relatively, Brain was strong and Cocytus recognized that. Though his level was low, the power of his strike was much stronger then what his level reflected (he struck with the strength of a lvl 40, enough to damage one of the pleiades, he even managed to cut Shalltear's fingernail too). His relative growth and power was so impressive that Cocytus recognized it would have been better to capture him and bring him to Ainz, but he decided to give Brain a warrior's death, preserving his body if ever the need to bring him back comes.

Trent Ward

with some chidori lightning emanating from it lmao fuck that

Basedra

Brain naming his attack true nail clipper is a call back to his fight against Shalltear.

NecDW4

That beat down wasnt extra, it was the BARE MINIMUM. That's just how tough high level adventurers are.

Slumped

He went around brain and not through him, to show his respect for him defending the capital

FreshxEli Tv

Nah fuck that 😂 how they going to say they did this to protect her but talked mad shit about how they want to kill her at the same time 😂😂 that was a personal ass whoop idc what anyone says they wanted her smoke forever the way they beat her ass 😂 like my nigga one poison wasn’t enough? 😂 she felt the first one instantly

Rin Okumura

I wish brain couldve clipped shalltear nails one more time

Zackary Keith Justice

“Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win” - Sun Tzu

CJ

The reason they beat her the fuck up was just to get a chance at being able to successfully mind control her, that's how strong Lakyus is. It's just like weakening a Pokemon in order to increase your chances of catching it.

NecDW4

The next time someone asks if you're a god, YOU SAY YES!

すもも麻子

Didn't do much for him in the end. They also propped Lakyus Aindra up in this episode as some super strong caster, but I bet she will get clapped with a kick from a daddy long legs from Nazarick that just hangs in a corner on the ceiling minding his own business.

Xan Acktor

I wish right before he froze over he whispered, Shalltear was stronger than you... XD

Mozart Waddell

Wow and now I see how a narrator would've made all the difference in this scene. I didn't know the level cap for humans was so low. Just knowing this would've elevated Brain's final duel even more. I seen Zanac was buried but Brain was preserved in ice so all context clues are pointing towards Brain's resurrection. I hope they don't kill his character off just to advance Climb. Please nobody confirm anything.

Crown Clown

Kinda wish this information was narrated throughout the fight. It gives the anime so much texture kinda like how HxH narrated abilities and the thought process behind some actions.

Crown Clown

I hope this is not it for Brain. He was frozen so I wonder if Ainz will bring him back.. GG and respect

Mozart Waddell

@Alex we're literally sharing the same mind. I thought back to Hunter x Hunter as well. Without the LN community I would've remained ignorant on so many plot points in Overlord.

JsnSkg

It's not about looking heroic. It's about a warrior's death, going out fighting.

Hasnain Khan

Yehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

JsnSkg

Imagine not being able to pick up on any visual or audio cues about the situation, completely misreading the mood of the characters. Imagine being so shallow that you have no idea the significance of this whole fight, and instead bieng so superficial as to say, "tHiS fiGhT wAs StUpiD" (because you didn't understand what was going on at all lmao).

Gas Bandit

Brain freeze

BlackAirForcesEnergy

You guys totally missed the entire point of Brain's arc. When we met Brain he was a talented samurai who was also a coward and without direction in life. He was a common thug. When he ran into Shalltear, got his ego broken, awas found by Gazef and "faced death" against Sebas his life changed. He felt he was given a second chance in life and decided to live honorably. Brain saw Gazef die in bravery. Gazef knew he would die. But he died with honor and on his feet. Brain fighting Cocytus wasn't about winning but knowing that defeat is inevitable and having the honor to die standing on your feet like great men did before you. That's his whole arc and the whole point. I admire Roshi trying to keep the crew on track. Not every moment needs a joke, Lupa damn. Y'all been hyping up Brain hoping good things for him and when it came y'all just missed it.

BlackAirForcesEnergy

That's the best way I've heard anyone put it. Brain held his ground and as a sign of respect Cocytus let him have it. This is still war and he's got a job to do so he took the detour but he gave Brain his respect.

Mozart Waddell

God I feel for the king. A majority of his military has been culled, he lost two sons, and the entirety of his kingdom has fallen.

JsnSkg

The t-rex's facial expressions, though.

Argent6

Brain went out like a true warrior, dude had one of the most interesting character developments in the series

Viru

I'd consider the lizardmen much better "warriors" than Brain. They were okay with surrendering first because they knew it was hopeless but still went out to fight after their surrender was denied. Being suicidal doesn't automatically = being a warrior and being "brave" doesn't mean you aren't dumb. Sometimes two things can be true at once.

JayX-B

You should of just kept the original unedited comment, at least it was half critique and not a complete tantrum.

Drake Rage

Cocyutus saw Brain as this Honorable Warrior that came out to defend the Palace, so that is why he gave Brain the respect to go around him. Basically, Cocyutus thought it would have been disrespectful if he clapped Brain and went straight past him, that is why he went around so Brain "successfully" defended the spot he died at.

Cuban Macaw

I mean you talk about gazef doing cool stuff but all he did was basically kill low level mobs and got his shit ran by ains in one hit. Brain actually managed to bypass a floor guardians defence skill WITH A REGUALR ASS SWORD not even the special one gazef had

Christian Castro

I really want them to watch Isekai Quartet once Ovelord 4 is done, they'd have a great time with it!

Bryann Kam

Plus them underplaying the fact that he managed to cut Shalltear’s fingernail. Yes, it was meant to partially be a comedic scene, but it’s also significant in the fact that he managed to so much as scratch her (even if it was ever so slightly). Because he proved that (as long of a shot as it might be) it is possible for the people of the New World to get on Nazarick’s level and maybe even challenge them. I mean, not everyone can calm that they were able to scratch a god. Like, that scene with Shalltear in season 2 along with his final stand against Cocytus, basically have the same energy as the Iron Man and Thanos scene from Infinity War. "All that for a drop of blood."

Ethan

Man, I'm glad they gave Brain's scene some budget, but they really needed a narrator or something to go into how significant his final stand was. It's gone over a ton of anime only viewer's heads since a lot of detail from the light novel was lost, so he looks like he commits suicide for no reason. Plus, the tone was way lighter in the show. - As he was walking through the streets, he noticed most houses were nailed from the inside, trapping themselves in essentially coffins. Plus, he noted how there must be entire families committing suicide behind their barricades. -He could hear the screams of the hundreds of refugees outside the cities walls right before it was frozen and exploded, going silent. Meaning everyone including the guards died instantly. - This final stand was the culmination of Brains entire character arc, but other people in comments above explained it better than I can. -He was not dumb and even mulled the idea of fleeing and hiding until he could ambush Ainz on the off chance he could at least damage him until he noticed Cocytus and what street he was on. He understood it was pretty much suicide either way but wanted to try. -The street he stood on to protect had so much emotional meaning to him (excerpt from the ln in the response comment): - Brain's final technique is a culmination of every experience and martial art learned since fighting Shalltear, hence the name True Nail Clipper. He combined his 2 unique martial arts, self-buffs, then finally copied Gazef's unique martial art and added it to this one moment. By using so many martial arts at once his body would die in a couple minutes. -Brain surpassed Gazef by far in the moment. Gazef was about level 29, with lvl 30 being the realm of hero's, which even some adamantite adventures aren't. Brain's strike was estimated by Cocytus to be about level 40, the peak of humanity. Only regular humans close in levels would be Fluder (who's hundreds of years old), and some Black Scripture members you met supped up with top tier magic items. Brain just had his regular ol katana and training, yet reached the peak of humanity at a relatively young age. - Cocytus walked around Brain's body and the area he was protecting as a sign of respect. Brain held that ground, forcing Cocytus and his army to delay and go around him. Brain honestly went out in the same way as Zanac. Introduced as terrible people on the surface but grew on you over a couple seasons and even died honorably on the off chance they could make a difference.

Ethan

Excerpts from the light novel on why the street was so important to Brain and why he chose to make a stand there: "However — Brain squinted and looked towards his slowly approaching yet still far away opponent. This was the street where he was picked up, forcefully pulled along by Gazef. This was the street he ran down with Climb to raid the Eight Finger’s facility, where he met Sebas. This was the street he led the children destined to become the next warrior captains down. This road was now being stomped upon carelessly by a monster. The road Brain had walked down with everyone he held dear was being stomped on. Unforgivable. Brain changed his mind. He no longer gave a damn about the Sorcerer King. Right here, right now, this monster in front of him— —he swore to make it pay." The dude was even thinking about his trainees in his final moments: "The children under Brain’s protection had already left this place. {Have they made it out safely I wonder.} They were like seeds he had sown for the future, the source of his calm. Perhaps — there was a 0.01% chance, no, a 0.000001% chance that one of them would grow up to become powerful enough to rival the Sorcerer King. These pipedreams of his further improved his mood."

Muzado

respect for both Brain and Cocytus

YungZeus

Hell no, the narration was mad annoying in HxH. Some narration would be cool but not HxH level.

Davon Thomas

It was a stupid fight. Lol he made a last stand...and died..wasn't much of a fight more of a suicidal encounter

Dee

Facts man. He was freezing everything in his path, but walked around Brain out of pure respect, even though he froze Brian’s body too.

Kwaku Afari

Brain's whole thing after speaking with Gazef and his experience with Climb and Sebas is not backing down or running anymore.

Arsean Wilbon

Their boss is strong enough to beat them all alone. So to get her to leave they had to go to those lengths to save her life. Brains final stance was a culmination of his growth and courage. Cocytutus was simply giving him respect from life to death.

YungZeus

I like how Aura’s pets somewhat have a personality.

YungZeus

Nazarick’s rats are probably like Inosuke’s rats from Demon Slayer.

YungZeus

Sure, low level for Ainz’ people but not low level for them. Plus, Gazef was a badass when he fought those angels or whatever.

YungZeus

Lmao, besides Cocytus, you really think anyone cares about that when they think humans are lesser than roaches..

delete

(hey y'all get some rest.)

Anonymous

i think that was his point. gazef fought low lvls compared to ainz and crew so gazef was actually able to show some cool moves. brain went against ainz and crew so insta clap. though i always thought brain's martial arts was cool especially his final moment

Ayoken007

*sigh... you were almost there OS. Almost. You seem to go for caustic, bombastic statements primarily instead of a more measured approach. Granted they seem to get you a lot more engagement, so I suppose it works. I do agree that it is...odd that going into the end of the 4th season, people seem to miss some of the broad strokes about this show. Unless there are some highly specific circumstances (Evil Eye vs Entoma for example) there isn't going to be a fair fight or a fight that is even remotely close. Sometimes Ainz or one of the guardians or maids may give the appearance of a winnable battle, but that is only to the extent they are willing to play around or for the sake of a plan. The denizens of Nazarick are basically sentient, malicious natural disasters to everyone else in this world. You can't outpunch an Earthquake. You can't swing your sword against a hurricane. You can't put out a volcanic eruption. You can only make plans to endure the inevitable. A lot of these arcs seem to be about a being's pride and dignity when faced with something so much greater than them that it is functionally a god. How do you preserve yourself and others? What do you choose to do when your final moments approach? Other's have summarized how Brain's story arc fits this, so I won't. This series has constantly shown us that victory is a foregone conclusion. What we are interested in is the smaller details: personal dynamics and political maneuvering are some of the best parts of Overlord.

Skebaba

Hey he bought multiple valuable seconds, first w/ his intro speel, then the wait for the Iai draw duel classic samurai shit, then Cocytus walked a longass time around the place. That's like at least 20s

Random Guy

You can clearly see the difference in talent between clementine and brain. Clementine stacked a lot of buffs without flinching, while brain was already at his limit with just two of them and thats after he took 3 potion buffs. Yet he got to the point where a floor guardian recognized his talent because of his near death experience with shalltear and hard work.

Steven Fechter

This show really wastes a lot of time on weak characters who die unceremoniously. Ainz would control the world if they didnt spend so many episodes a season giving character development to characters who have no impact.

Steven Fechter

i didnt really care about his character at all and he didnt really do anything the entire series.

Random Guy

There are a total of 19 players before Momonga, all of them humans. Thats why even the only survivor of the infighting died of old age.

Random Guy

this is it. I mean, gazef was the same and they never revived him.

Ghearman

Agreed, Brain was a top tier character in Overlord imo sad to see him go

Random Guy

Him being able to cut the nail is actually impressive, guardians are immune to low level attacks.

Random Guy

I don't really feel the same way. He was a coward. If he agreed with Zanac, surrendered the head of Philip before Albedo came and announced war then they might have been able to avoid all this. It wasnt really emphasized in the anime but they actually had a bit of time to do so, but they never did because of the people who died in the war, and he was afraid of what the nobles would do.

Random Guy

same honestly. They've reacted to all the 6 shows that show up in isekai quartet and its actually pretty fun comparing the power levels

Tyrondor

in the afterword of the book where Brain died the author said that he only gave Brain that much screentime so people would be sad when he died

Jia Hu

Cocyutus walking around Brain was him respecting Brain's resolve

Mirrorline

Any of the good guy can revive him too. Like they revive the big girl in Evileye's team.

Neo Don

Damn the feeling of hopelessness is unreal. A kingdom, it’s royal family and it’s warriors all getting demolished by fear and the only dignity that has to offer is one folly swordsman. I was hoping Brain could have pulled a Yukimara Sanda at least getting to Ains before he died. RIP the last of the kingdom.

Mozart Waddell

I thought the King only offered his head up as a last ditch effort because Ainz gave the kingdom no time to respond to his letter. I he choose to sit on his hands out of fear of retribution from the nobles he is a coward. Thanks for educating me on the King.

CJ

He didn’t say anything like that.. I just read the afterword again and there’s nothing close to what you said

CJ

Brain did a lot more than just two buffs. True Nail Clipper is a combination of 3 of his martial art skills which already required a lot of concentration to perform, he then cast ability boost and greater ability boost, while having already drunk 3 potions. What he did was described as a miracle and “breaking the rules of the world” in the LN. It was even said that regardless of what happened, his body would deteriorate within a minute because of his feat. Clementine could definitely not do the same.

Anonymous

damn its a shame that you guys missed alot of the details in the writing of brains character and just call it stupid instead of trying to understand the motivations behind what he did

Tyrone Arcega

Jujutsu kaisen movie no reaction?

Steven Fechter

bro no one gives a shit about brain. hes a nail clipper. Im really confused as to why the show wasted so much time on him considering he had exactly zero impact on the plot/story.

Steven Fechter

Kinda dumb. Are buffs taxing on the body? That concept didnt seem to exist when the elf guy fought hamsuke.

Steven Fechter

Real talk, why should we care that hes strong enough to cut a finger nail? The gap is so wide, his growth meant aboslutely nothing and it was a waste of screen time.

Ougi

if were being honest, the anime doesnt convey that very well, the LN might but thats not what they're reacting to

CJ

Not really, martial arts require stamina and concentration; stronger ones like what brain used require more stamina and concentration. Erya (guy with the elves) had no trouble using arts because he wasn’t going beyond his limit. It was taxing for Brain because he broke the rules of the world by doing things that should not have been possible. Since the anime lacks a narrator unfortunately only source readers will know of this.

Ethan

They die unceremoniously because either they're: A) comedic/dumb deaths B) Deaths to emphasize tone or despair C) Honorable deaths/deaths that have a lot of emotional weight to the viewer/other characters. Sadly, in this instance with Brain the show turned a C death into A. Moments the show did it well was Clementine and Arche for example as B deaths, or the Sword of Darkness group as C deaths. Also, "wasting time on weak characters" is one of the reasons why people like Overlord. Side characters are a tool used for worldbuilding without always needing Ainz present. The amount of additional ass pull plot juggling it would take to have Ainz always present would be ridiculous. "Ainz would control the world if they didn't spend so many episodes on other characters". No the fuck he wouldn't? What show have you been watching? The reason we spend time with side character's is to see Nazarick from their POV and world building, it doesn't affect the chronology. Ainz is going at a fairly quick pace of conquering neighboring countries tbh. Would you rather just timeskip to every time he vassalizes a country or beats an army? That would get boring real fast beating nameless enemies over and over. That's one of the reason's Haikyuu succeeds in making volleyball matches entertaining. They give every team multiple unique characters and personality so they're not nameless "enemies" every match. Guess you also shouldn't watch Game of Thrones because it doesn't always focus on Jon or Daenerys the entire show and lots of side characters die suddenly? The fact that flew over your head is kinda funny ngl.

Arc

The fight in a nutshell: I kill you, respectfully. I respectfully die. Also that fight looked better than Platinum Dragonlord

Ethan

Buffs by themselves aren't taxing on the body iirc? It's using martial arts at the same time and continuously that are taxing. These can be martial art attacks or martial buffs on yourself. The elf guy used one martial art to buff himself, then one to attack a couple seconds later. Every other buff was cast by 3 elves after they healed him. "Martial arts used something akin to focus. The stronger the martial art was, the more of it was required. Exceptional warriors — higher-level warriors, while they had a greater capacity for it, would also find it difficult to use multiple martial arts at the same time. Indeed, Brain had greater reserves of focus than your average warrior, but he had already reached his limit back when he used Nail Clipper against Shalltear." Brain combining 3 extremely strong and high-level martial arts on top of each other and was breaking past his biological human limits, hence it would kill him fairly soon. Looking back at S1, even Gazef was panting after using his own 6-fold-slashes of light, and 2 minor martial arts.

Oliver

Did Cocytus just walk around Brain as to symbolize that he "stod his ground" and therefor he cannot pass? Shit is ultimate respect in my eyes

Thamor

I don't mind people hating on Brain, but he was for myself one of my favorites. Author missed a real potential here, hopefully he will remove Climb soon from the show as that is a waste of space character.

Golden Pants

Ainz can stop time, delete armies, and summon potentially thousands of death knights. I kind of agree with guy above. The show spends a lot of time hyping up a characters progressing, only to have them die to one random Nazarick character for seemingly no plot reason. I get that its meant to fit the tone of despair, but thats just not entertaining? It gets boring after the 17th one sided fight. At least with shows like Berserk, the despair comes with interesting characters, deep themes, and stellar fights. Honestly the only fight in the series that was good was the season one finale against Shaltear. And thats because it was the only fight that had stakes. Everything else has just been a joke, or a pre-decided fight that has no value to the story other than "Oops ainz won moving on". Like I don't even remember the Royal Protectors name. I've completely forgotten it. You know why? Because he literally never achieved anything. He never won a fight. He just lost in the most boring and horribly animated episode of the show. At this point the show has become One Punch Man but less funny, and somehow worse animation every season. At least the world building is...nah even the world building is trash. I mean, its literally just trope-ish kingdoms with little to no interesting politics so far. A theocracy? Cool Like, we know literally nothing about their religion. The Empire? They gave up immediately and submitted to Ainz. The Dwarves? They're just shittier Tolkien dwarves, again with nothing particularly interesting happening other than runemaking. Which the show glanced over and has since stopped talking about entirely. Honestly I'm waiting for there to be something to support people saying that the world building is good. So far its just bland as hell.

Kevin

I think he walked around his corpse instead of just walking straight past him, as some extra respect. So he didn't just walk over his corpse essentially.

Lloyd Edwards

I don't think they did. But they're pretty stacked right now so it may be a while

Lloyd Edwards

NGL "Brain, the man without one" had me rolling

Gran_Air

How are people 4 seasons into this show and still don’t understand what type of story this is? It honestly baffles me seeing the a mount of people complaining about “side characters getting destroyed” 😐

Ethan

Agreed with the *anime* only, not showing fights with much stakes for Nazarick so far, keep watching. Sometimes there is plot reason for deaths, sometimes there isn't, that's kinda how tension is achieved when you have side characters that could die at any min. Lmao don't bring up the name Berserk and *good fights* yet specify that Overlord has bad animation in the same paragraph. Berserk definitely has a better story, but hot damn the cgi in both shows are crimes against humanity. The 1997 Berserk while not bad still shows its age animation wise. Gazef as a character was kinda dumb you're right. Him losing could have been avoided but he wanted to give Brain and Climb any information he could on Ainz's abilities. Too bad he time stopped, but they at least know about it now. The entire paragraph about worldbuilding you mentioned is solved by the light novel, and the anime glosses over it because it's dense with information or doesn't translate it well. Cliff notes of some lore ahead: -The Theocracy was established 600 years ago and worships the 6 gods that appeared 600 years ago and are split into 6 sects of the religion devoted to one god of the 6. Each sect has a "Cardinal of ..." (insert earth, fire, water, etc). You saw them this season during their meeting and with Jircniv. Each sect controls one Scripture, the Sunlight Scripture was wiped out by Ainz, and we have briefly seen the Black Scripture. They are the oldest human centric country, purging every non-human race or enslaving them, currently in a war against the elves. You saw how the Theocracy dude last season who had elf slaves treated them (guy who died to Hamsuke). They are technologically advanced and have advanced divine magics, and essentially established and protected the humans of the Kingdom and Empire to cultivate talent. They also have legends of something occurring around every 200 years as stated in the meeting this season, but I won't spoil. -The Empire is one of the most advanced states we've met in terms of tehcnology and arcane magic. Institutional magic education, as seen with Fluder and all his apprentices. Quality over quantity for everything, their military, their magic, and their governing body as seen after Jircniv executed or disbanded any noble opposition/useless nobles. Conducting research into undead labor for automation as we saw with the death knight locked in the basement and farming skeletons. -Dwarven Kingdom was pretty much an isolated people since their founding, established relations with the humans, then their capital got absolutely razed years ago by one of the Demon Gods. Quagoa and dragons moved in shortly after until Ainz popped up. They only had 4 total cities and were down to 2 when Ainz arrived, about to be down to 1. Sorcerer Kingdom is currently trading them undead laborers/miners and fresh food for ores, tools, and technical expertise, and dwarves are helping pave roads in E-Rantel and assumedly between other settlements. They streamlined the shipping processes between the Dwarf nation, SK, and Empire via undead labor and dragon air cargo making shipping between countries cost effective as hell despite distance or terrain. This made it cheaper than buying anything from the Kingdom putting further economic strain on them and creating essentially an economic union. This is just cliff notes off the wiki. The lore is there, just not in the show or glossed over. There's smaller in-depth trivia that's just fun to know but doesn't impact much story wise. Like did you know dwarves used to mine naked before inventing protective gear. Or that all their mines are nationalized meaning that any mineral excavated from these mines, by law that person has to make a payment to the government in order to keep it. Just fun stuff like that.

yaboyroshi

Thank you for this lol. Its impossible for an anime only to just assume all this stuff. We go off what we see. Its not that it went over our heads, it just appears he went out and got clapped

Kaitsu Tokiyas

there is so much thing can be missed on overlord if you only watch the anime, there is a hint when the princess can wield the sword . before it said "only anglaus and gazef can weild that sword " but reiner princess can use it ... there is some hint on this that related on next ep. and also when the moment brain use that true nail caliper he accomplish surpass gazef right before his death ...

Steven Fechter

its not that good mate. the only person who doesnt feel like a side character is ainz and we only seem to spend maybe 20% of the show with him.

Steven Fechter

i mean you would also walk around a log of shit sitting in the side of the road. not because I respect the turd, but because it has tainted the ground it touches.

Steven Fechter

nothing like someone trying to debate you into feeling emotion for a badly done scene.

Steven Fechter

good point. its like a much worse one punch man. except one punch man is actually pretty funny.

Mozart Waddell

I love the show but I'm patiently waiting till Ainz suffer a major defeat, betrayal, or death of one of his dear friends. It's all right to like the show and think the main characters are trash.

ken_tka

bro the fact is, it just didnt hit hard. the anime didnt convey it well at all

Christian Castro

Bro probably watches "power of friendship" kind of anime lmao. Overlord gives a good look at hardships, victories and losses against overwhelming odds. It's so raw and unfiltered that it gives a sense of this is what would happen if the world and story of Overlord happened for real. War is brutal and unforgiving, conviction alone won't spare you from meeting your end. Like it's so rare that you're rooting for both sides, good and evil. Overlord presents the world from the POV of all sides involved. There's no magic of friendship moments or flashback to powerup moments that are just so cheesy it hurts to watch. It's realistic with the logic in conflicts and when a miracle does happen, it's just that much more valuable to the viewers. It isn't for everyone though, especially people who have the attention span of a gold fish.

ken_tka

bro we get that completely. the fact is, why tf did one of the twins say "i've been thinking of when i could kill you" like wtf?!?! that shits too extra for "just wanting to get her to leave"

Steven Fechter

so there are other real players in the world? thats why i dont give a shit about anything that happens in the show. theres no one who even has the knowledge on HOW to challange ainz, let alone anyoen with that ability.

Steven Fechter

gazef was literally killed with an ability that specifically makes it impossible to revive

Christian Castro

I love how eerie and quite the soundtrack is in the last scenes. It pushes the sense that the kingdom has fallen, all of the warriors are dead, it's all over.

Steven Fechter

apparently in the lore there used to be other human players, but they are all dead. so theres literally no one alive to challenge ainz in anyway. whats the point of this show? there is a sad melancholy with ainz trying to hopelessly find his lost friends, but hes not finding anyone at all. ainz can solo the entire planet and theres no one even close to being able to stop him.

None None

That IS the point of the show. It's a story about the world slowly being taken over by an unstoppable demon. There's a reason the story has largely shifted away from Ainz to focus more on the people who are unfortunate enough to cross paths with him.

Ethan

@Steven Fechter Kindly fuck off if you hate the series that much and have nothing constructive to say about it. At least I'm trying to fill in the blanks the anime missed, while all you're doing is going into every comment and swinging your dick around acting all cool because you dislike it.

Mari

Well I think this is a spoiler I’m about to say but I think I’ve watched a YouTube video where they explain who were the other players before ain’s, the 8 greed kings and the 6 great gods or whatever, that’s 14 player’s right there, I don’t remember if there were others but I think I remember hearing that the dragon lords ( platinum dragon lord and others)are the ones that defeated the 6 great gods or something like that

Arzoden

Mozart, stop watching this Anime, Ainz will never be beaten and they wil continue to be OP until they have taken over the world. Now fk off to One Piece

Arzoden

If you belive that Brain was going to get powerful enough to kill everyone in Nazarick you are a living sheep

Infinity

because adapting a massive LN series that goes into massive detail of everything which the show doesnt makes the show feel hollow. The overlord anime has never been good the source material is almost impossible to adapt properly so it was surprising they even bothered at all.

Arzoden

Steven, you clearly do not understand anything in this show, go watch One Piece instead of wasting your time on someething you don't like

Arzoden

That's what happens when you start to hype up a side character in a world of godlike protaganists. Brain was never meant to last dudes, it's a miracle he has been alive since his encounter with Shalltear.

Infinity

the anime focusing on brain is a joke anyway hes literally insignificant side character in the LNs. So yes it is fucking stupid and you're also stupid for caring so much about an irrelevant character lmao. Yall dont even know all the nazarick members yet and you care about a pointless side character who's barely mentioned in the LNs lmao

Mozart Waddell

@Arzoden I was going to be respectful but since you weren't gargle my ballsack bitch! My manga collection's over 7K volumes and my MAL account watchlist run deep. I understand exactly what type of story this is. If you don't understand an opinion I pity you, truly.

sippin on 5 hour energy and antifreeze like me on night shift

SlackyTv

Dont underestimate it, he cut a nail from Shalteer, a Level 100 almost Super being

The Pebble

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, still hilarious either way.

Karma

I think they missed the part where they said the capitol was surrounded. Like everyone is dying. No exceptions.

Kevin Campos

Any of y’all can’t watch this video?

Jalani Abdul-Aziz

Damn they did Brain dirty with that writing 😭

grodon909

@Steven It's probably more the respect thing. Cocytus has Neutral alignment and his only character traits are that he respects warriors and CHAIR.

Fabi

na. he stood for what he believed in. and he got quite strong for a human. rip Brain.

Fabi

as we see here a warrior without honor

Fabi

with all respect to Brain. he didn't bypass the defence skill. He died before his sword could reach cocytus

Kyle Drayton

Mozart go outside and touch grass kid, it's not that damn deep. You out here being sad praying for a fictional character's death/defeat like some weirdo with no life. Buddy was right, stop wathcing the anime then since you're clearly letting fictional characters get under your skin as if they actually did something to you. Go stick to your little my hero where everyone is a flat and boring "paragons of justice". You 4 seasons in yet you're only now arriving to the party that this isn't another cliche and overused good vs evil type of story.

The Force

They really do undersell Brains final stand in the show. I can't get fully into it cause it's been awhile but suffice to say the background detail the LN adds makes it a *way* more powerful moment. Understanding as well that everything Cocytus did was to respect him as a warrior seeing someone of worth to not hold back against. In the end the army of Nazarick could not be swayed or have it's course altered. Except by one man who forced them, if even for a moment, to go around, a monument and pillar of valor and honor in the face of utter hopelessness. From coward bandit ace to true noble warrior, Brain is muh boy.
