The roach place is actually worse than you think. When they brought up having 'seconds' they're eating them alive and then healing them back up so they have more flesh to eat. So they're getting eaten alive over and over again without being allowed to die.

So.. you meet Kyouhukou An area guardian and on of the 5 worst (a title in Nazerick) Kyouhukou has the worst residence. It's a black room full of cockroaches. The smallest the size of your fingertip. The biggest over 1 meter. Even in the game players inside this room where something forced to log out because they couldn't handle it. But now it's worse (because in the game they couldn't go inside you) Btw he was the one who got Hilma. The lady from last season. Now you might understand why she is so loyal and can't eat solid food anymore The other of the five worst are: Neuronist Painkill - worst occupation (race brain eater and she loves to give pain) Gashokukochuuou - worst appearance (not seen in the anime, is a parasite and uses humans as house/ nesting place) Chacmool - worst personality (not seen or mentioned in the anime and little in the novel) ??? - worst Ego Nazerick Old guarder - google says they are level 18 and on the same level as mithril adventures Now to the collar some where wearing. It improves the xp earning rate but you are greatly weakened (Can't remember if that meant defence or Offence) The team leaders: Team Dragon Hunt with Parpatra Ogrion (the old dude) They choose the name from having slain q green dragon. Parpatra was a good leader so this team of 5 didn't loose any member for a long time. He is 80. Given that they were slaves who were mutilated by that asshole (if you look closely, the tips of their elf ears have been cut off), I think they of all people at the very least deserved to be some of the very few to get somewhat of a happy ending in this story.

The author for overlord is playing a very delicate game though of building the world and showing what we want, Ains, without detracting from the story/world building. He shows enough Ains to get us hyped, but not too much so its not JUST a power fantasy. Theres more going on than just OP MC like most other isekai. Slime, mushoku tensei, rezero, overlord and grimgar to ashes are all top notch isekai and its because theres more than just a bland OP MC.

I don't understand why this arc is the one where people started seeing the "evil" in Nazarick. If anything this is one of the milder arcs. Compare this to executing the adventurers that wanted to help Momon near the end of season 1, where Nazarick kills (I think half are abducted in the novels) a whole team of adventurers (Kralgra) because they were trying to take understandable precautions against a powerful vampire (Shalltear) rampaging near town. Here however the people are criminals invading another nation to commit grave robbery. Workers are not adventurers. They deliberately work outside the rules to make more money (except some healers like Roberdyck who started so they can work charitably) and are heavily involved in criminal activity. They are also citizens (in Arche's case an ex-noble) of the Empire who are infiltrating a different nation's borders to pillage a potentially archaeologically significant ruin on orders from their countries government. Its like if the US president got Hell's angels to raid the pyramids and then calling the Egyptians "evil" for fighting back. (btw to pre-empt those saying there's a difference between fighting back and torture be sure to look up your own country's history of (or current) torture. I doubt there's a country without any) Also Overlord isn't a Saturday morning show or shonen, good and evil are not really part of it outside of the literal alignment stat anyone from Yggdrasil has. Maruyama did a fairly good job writing fully developed characters with motivations, complexity and realism considering most of them are (in universe) supposed to be clichés and caricatures.

That scene with the elves is this show at its purest. A power fantasy for watching bad people suffer. Sebas in S2 was on it too. Considering those elves were slaves, their master probably did a lot worse than they could show in the anime. Next ep is one of the best imo
