It's pretty much an adventure type of show with Alibaba and Aladdin as main characters. Aladdin is a magical being, a special one. We get to travel and to know different countries and their political issues. Season 2 gets more deeper with the magical aspect of the show.

Release order is usually the best way to watch series. Even if Sinbad one is a prequel, watching in release order would probably be the best way to watch.

Release order. The main series came out in 2012/2013 while adventures of Sinbad came out in 2016. It's better if they watch the main series so they understand the lore and power system first.

you really should watch sinbad first, it's 13 episodes and it's prequel to all of this. it's actually the origin of the real main character of magi, that is sinbad. alibaba just feels like a big side quest that meets his main quest. otherwise when you meet sinbad it will be like who is that instead of "that is him!", but that is just my expectations. Most times I feel like chronological is the way to go

Sinbad was created after Magi started so its more so an extended backstory instead of a prequel. Magi introduces Sinbad and legend of Sinbad fleshes out his character. Its more of an OVA then anything else. But I do agree they should watch it afterwards since its apart of the show.
