If its a trap it would make sense for The v24 to have a built in obsolescence. The deadly side effect might not be wanted. But its woukd still do the job. If your solution works to well It would be a one off solution. No more demand. The military can absolutely be blackmail in that situation. When vought has the same potential to violence in their hand And influence on the american mind. Edgar just wants to give the military something to depend on to have them under his thumb. If you increase the military power, they will use jt to push their frontier. If you cut that supply whike they are on these new frontier, they will start to get destroyed. And thus needing more. There are parallels between Starlight and Homelanders situation of being controlled and being pissed about it so nice the show showed that. I feel so bad for Deep. Yes, he sexually assaulted Starlight, but he went on a journey to better himself only to have all these people around him just never take him seriously and use him and now it came full circle with Homelander basically mouth raping him with that dinner stunt. Karma, bro. ( If anyone didn't know, yes you eat squid/octopus raw and still living. People see it as abuse but it's the culture.) And yeah, them choosing two white men (Being a light skin Hispanic makes you white adjacent and preferred over any other) over the poc women.... that was some annoying pain. And yes, Noir was helping. He was dude's personal bodyguard during the assault so anyone who got near them was killed asap. So he was fine. Those other fuckin' jokes were just being mindless. Deep went on a journey to better himself? Deep lost his position of power and found supplication and false humility as the only way to get back into the good graces of those in power. At no point has Deep shown any contrition for his actions. Not saying what's going on isn't horrible but he is definitely not legitimately remorseful. Maybe just stupid but that's a poor excuse.

Just a little history, the flashback to the Contra cocaine trafficking of the 80s was legit real, where the American CIA was smuggling cocaine to the US and literally air drop it into minority neighborhoods. The reason why The Bloods and Crips gained prominence. The reason was that America was funding the Contra rebels, CIA trained, to fight off the Sandinistas, who were socialist but America's "Red Scare" tactics twisted the narrative into thinking they were funded by Russia (because Socialism=Communism), to bring democracy to Nicaragua... and also push any Socialist agenta out of America's footstep. Sorry for the long history lesson on a show about Supes. Just felt like educating, also The Boys is a well written show

Lol Deep has never once apologized to Starlight in a real way or done anything real to make amends for what he did (you can't make amends for something like that, btw. Some actions are just unforgivable.) Imagine being so tone-deaf you'd think the girl you assaulted wants a diamond necklace as an "I'm sorry" gift? Or when he said "I needed to forgive myself" and "I'm glad we've both grown"? It's all about himself. He wouldn't have done anything for Starlight if there was no incentive to do so. To me that doesn't make much sense. It would be way more lucrative for Edgar and Vaught if the v24 did exactly what they said it would do. If the serum works and it allows the military to have a temp supe, then they will naturally keep wanting to buy more because it is very effective. But if it's a "trap" like you say, then what is there to stop the military from saying "Ok fine, we will let the current soldiers die from the lasting effects and then stop buying the v24 all together". I mean it's the US military/Government they aren't going to be black mailed and beholden to a 3rd party company over the lives a few soldiers. Plus they already know how hard it is to control supes, they wouldn't want a whole platoon of constantly juiced super soldiers. Even if the "trap" were true, the military would still then just let the soldiers die after they completed whatever mission they were on. So the idea of it being a "trap" seems rather unnecessarily complicated and antithetical to Edgar and Vaughts goals.

Actually, they go senile after mating. They have short lives(which is tragic since they're wicked smart and are capable of learning quickly, it's possible the only thing stopping the octopus from being the smartest animal is their 4 year capped lifespan), and mating is the trigger for their decline. They just tend to die because they completely lose their appetite and are barely capable of anything, even running from predators. So Timothy was basically an old man octopus. It actually makes sense as he was pretty weak at stopping Deep from eating him.

What I find interesting is that Butcher's eye beams are golden, whereas Homelander's are red. As though that speaks to something about the character, at least writing wise.
