I feel like it's more about confronting their feelings to kinda gain some sort of closure and put them at ease, rather than bottling up those feelings. Still pretty wild to confess to someone who has a girl already, but I don’t think the intention was to make something work out between them it's more like accepting that it can't work out

I dont think its about Futaba going to get her man, I think its healthier for the friendship to be able to either stop or move forward if both parties are honest. If she tells him about it (which she does at the end of this episode) without expecting anything in return, they can hash it out and move forward from there. Kunimi made his own decision to prioritise his friendship with Futaba over his relationship problems so it's not her or Azusagawa's fault entirely.

Futaba's issues stem from her fear of being alone as well as her self-hate. The loneliness was resolved from realising that her friends will always be there for her. Uploading pics was just a cheap way to fill that loneliness (equating it to attention) it wasn't necessarily sexual attention she was looking for but any is better than none. The self-hate/shame issue was resolved from her admitting to herself that its okay to want things for herself and put herself first (asking to go to the fireworks).

I think the futaba arc has to be my favorite in this series, its shorter than most of the others but it uses it to get straight to the point theres no fluff in getting what needs to be done. It tackles this specific situation so eloquently and maturely. Sakuta and Kunimi are the real ones here.

You guys always say it's inappropriate or wrong but for one person to hold the feelings sucks and they're good friends so when she confessed she understood he wouldn't reciprocate and he understood she needed to let out her feelings and move on so it doesn't end up being weird for them and it's not like they had anything going on behind his girlfriends back, it was a mutual understanding as friends that let both move forward in a good way

I feel its better to make the situation uncomfortable and be honest and get the situation resolved vs develop a mental illness (adolescent syndrome) and wanting to off yourself in a typhoon for your otherself. Just get through the awkwardness and move on with your life. I feel its like if you have a problem with your manager at work but keep it in a not say anything because you need a job and just endure the stress, or you can say something, risk the managers feels, and something can potentially change vs staying the same problem that is becoming toxic

Kunimi should break up with his girl and it's not just because Futaba likes him. She's been problematic and toxic as shit since episode 1, telling Azusagawa to stop interacting with him due to the hospitilization rumors. I could understand if it was just about Futaba and her not liking a girl being so close to her boyfriend but even then she goes to Azusagawa and tries to order him to tell Futaba off. She's trying to become the only person in Kunimi's life, separating him from his friends.

I get where Sheera coming from but I think it's really just to let your feelings out and sometimes that can make it awkward or bring you even closer as friends. In this case, I feel like it was making their friendship awkward when she didn't tell him because she was always nervous and acting differently around him. Random comparison but, It's like if you met someone you knew from high school and they say "you know I used to have a crush on you back in school right". They know that you're with someone and they know it's too late and doesn't expect you to be with them or anything at all, they just want to let it be known because they regretted never telling you.

I feel like as people here and considering the friendship in general/Futaba's general consensus not to act on the feelings and moreso just trying to figure out how to deal with them, it was good that they ended up watching fireworks together and they were able to express honest feelings and accept them and move on. Futaba seemed to really need help from her friends in terms of support in moving through it healthily (considering what almost happened (her essentially killing a part of herself)), and thankfully both were in good form to respond, but of course a very nuanced situation.

Nah if you don't say anything you will regret it. She handled the situation perfectly She said what she had to say and told him to go make up with his girl. The flipside to that is she does not tell him and it will still be awkward between them only this time the wont move on from the things she has bottled up. The futuba arc is my fav btw.

Yeah guys different cultures have different way of handling emotions/relationships. Whenever you see these episodes about characters being pushed to tell other ppl in relationships they like them it’s more about that person gaining closure so they can healthily deal with those emotions and move past them instead of doing things the American way and bottling everything up and dealing with it in negative outputs that rarely have positive outcomes.
