The goat romcom/slice of life that turns dark is easily Clannad (especially season 2, "afterstory"). Bunny Girl Senpai, specifically the movie (basically a season 2), is another good one that turns on you. And Golden Time is a burn that really crushes your soul. If you watch Clannad or Bunny Girl, you have to watch the whole series together. The first season sets up the second part and really drives the spike into your heart.

This reaction and show was a 10/10. Can't wait what's next on your list. So many shows I want to recommend like dragon maid, horimiya, fruits basket, girlfriend girlfriend, teasing master takagisan, wotaku, Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions etc., but nagatoro and bunny girl senpai are probably next, which are great too. Also I hope we don't have to suffer through 12 episodes of a meme show like school days. Because the first 11 episods are pure boredom and the MC is the dumbest, most puchable person to ever exist.

Slice of life Anime I’ve enjoyed and recommend that we’re kinda dark are “Your Lie in April” and the bunny girl senpai movie (the show is good too) “Horimiya” is a wholesome one I recommend and and “wotakoi: love is hard for an otaku” isin’t bad Quintessential Quintuplets is a fun one as well Thanks for the reactions 😄

The SoL anime that get dark out of nowhere tend to not be as good because the writers usually end up banking on it to drive the series instead of actually telling a story. Though there are good examples, Astra Lost in Space and Sket Dance tend to draw a fine line. Though the anime for Astra starts off darker and more dramatic.

Fruits Basket at first seems like an innocent romance anime, but it's actually a slice of life with really dark themes. I would actually say that romance is more in the background.

You know, the japanese are maniacs. who assigns summer home work. what the heck. then giving them crap for showing up during summer break not in uniform. jeez. My number on recommendation following this is definitely horimiya the dynamic is very different but the relationship is just as natural, except in horimiya they skip all the pussyfooting and the characters just acknowledge that they want to be together very early on. It’s super refreshing if you’ve watched a lot of shojo anime, plus the animation is modern and very well done. Bunny girl senpai is a close second, but that show only focuses on the romance in the first three episodes and it becomes a subplot from then on.

Marin's (Mah-reen) character design is just so good. Body proportions aside, her hair is definitely a highlight of her design, with the gradient effect it has. And there's her purely wholesome facial expressions, that are so well-animated. Especially right there at the end of this episode, that smile is contagious.

Man, for all the thirst traps that happen, at the end of it all, My Dress up Darling was the smartest, most passionate, most normal ecchi anime out there. Everything had a purpose... what other shows don't do. There might be Manga out there that do the same, but we've not seen an anime adaptation for it. All in all, I'm glad there are still good to great Manga authors out there
