So, about the gun thing, Japan’s gun laws are so strict that even the Yakuza is reluctant to use firearms. There was one story where a thug pulled a gun on someone and that person assumed it was a toy painted black, he was right. Finding a real gun is almost unimaginable for some Japanese people.

One thing to consider is that guns are illegal among the general populace in Japan, which is why the guy thought it was a toy at first. Also, why his first instinct wasn't to wrestle the gun out of his hand, and instead sit there shocked that he almost died.

It's a bit sad you did not notice the cameo roles of both the leads of Your Name but it is what it is haha Also, I slightly prefer WWY over Your Name. I think it's take on young love is more nuanced than Your Name, while also delivering a more straightforward tale. I also like the fact that it basically says true love does not fix anything but we'll be alright. (it's a stark contrast to Your Name's ideology that love really did saved everyone) Although if I'm feeling a bit more optimistic, I prefer Your Name on some days. Also, there's an underlying story within WWY that was often overlooked. It was theorized that Kei's wife was the Rain Girl (but I've also seen theories that the "Rain Girl" was actually Hodaka)

Aye! One of my fave movies. It’s Theorized that the constant rain was a symbolism for all the hard times everyone was going through. Gina losing her mother and having to take of her brother; Hadoka running away from home; Kei still mourning his wife and battling to get his daughter back; and even Kasumi who was trying to find a job but didn’t know what she wanted to do. Everyone kept saying the whole movie “I wish this rain would stop” (I wish things would get better) and then there is Hina who now has the power to bring sunshine to peoples lives. She spent the whole movie trying to make others happy and “stop their rain”, but like in real life the more you try to make others happy the more you sacrifice of yourself (aka her slowly disappearing). When Kei said he would be ok with someone getting sacrificed for the weather to clear up, he meant he’d be ok if that all it took for his problems to disappear. But then when Hodaka saved Hina he said “ I want you, more than any blue sky. The weather can stay crazy”. He realized he can make through the “rainy days” if he had her. They chose their happiness over trying to make the world happy he sue no one should have to sacrifice them selves for that. Eventually everyone in the end realized that life will have rainy days but it’s about “Weathering” them through With others. Not trying to “fix them”. Hence the name of the movie: Weathering With You”

I honestly think Hodaka made the right choice. Just like how the many other people didn't really care how it became sunny, he shouldn't have to care about other strangers. Besides it was a span of the 3 years of nonstop raining, other than finding a new place to relocate to people had time so I'm pretty sure no one or not that many people died. And just like the grandma said it was going to happen eventually. If Hina hadn't became the Weather Maiden Tokyo would've eventually sunk anyways, so if that was gonna happen why also sacrifice a girl with a bright future.

tbf the character design for the characters are pretty basic, and if you haven't looked up anything else after watching your name once (like pictures, random vids, etc.), you would hardly remember them for the next one. As for me, I only recognized them AFTER the movie even though I was a pretty hardcore your name fan. These people watch multiple things everyday, you're not gonna remember EVERYTHING

I mean it was a good watch it was definitely not bad but I am kinda disappointed I think Your Name is like 10x better and most other anime movies are too but the animation was delicious everything looked so good

Still love that Taki and Mitsuha from “Your Name” make cameos. When I saw the movie in the theater they had an interview/the director afterwards and I think he said they were married by that point. Also that universe is cursed for “natural” disasters between the comet and the rain😂

Tbf it's been a while since they watched Your Name, and anime characters have somewhat similar appearances. Don't get me wrong, I realized them instantly the first time I watched, but it's not unusual for them to miss this. I mean they missed several obvious characters before.
