I think the deal is even though Shirou still ends as Archer he doesn't lose his faith in his ideals, still does the good fight, and at least has a more fulfilling life with Rin watching over him in the end. Where Archer felt ultimately betrayed and gave up leading to his bitterness.

Not really. Fate Shirou is the only one who reaches Avalon. EMIYA, the counter guardian, would never be able to stop doing his job. He stuck on that for all eternity. Also, Fate Shirou does not become a Counter Guardian nor a Heroic Spirit.

He has his own anime series called "Lord El-Melloi II Case Files". Highly recomend it. It's like CSI/Sherlcok Holmes but with magic, and expands a lot on the Fate series lore.

Heaven's Feel isn't "what could have happened" btw. It's a whole different route from the VN (the three routes are essentially each their own separate timeline), and I'm very excited to see your reaction to it. Can't wait.

Most of the story is explained well enough you just need the context from UBW. Yea they don't go into extreme detail and cover every little thing, but that's what an adaptation is, just the important bits. It's a fairly great adaptation imo. The only part that suffers is the ending since you need a bit of Nasuverse knowledge to understand what happens

Great story? Debatable. I can't speak on the VN as I've never read it, but the story in the movies is a 7/10 at best. But I guess it doesn't matter since none Fate fans are mainly watching for the animation and Ufotable doesn't disappoint.

Shirou doesn't end up becoming Archer in the end. The last scene is supposed to show that he will make it further than Archer because he's more prepared and has Rin by his side. The original draft had him walk past where Archer stopped to show this, but they scrapped that and had Shirou smiling in the final shot instead.

you dont need to watch Fate. its the same thing but different order of events/deaths and ultimately the plot line is shirou falls in love with sabre instead of rin. Each route is just he picks a different girl and gets a different side of the story. The Archer in this timeline is basically the shirou from Fate timeline. People like Heavens Feel because it was done as very high end movies with by far the best animation of any anime in recent years and Heavens Feel reveals the origins of the grail and the 3 mage families which the other 2 doesn't.

Just a note: Shirou's fate [as Archer] is not set in stone, especially since: (a) Shirou's ideal has been confronted by "reality", and (b) he's now accompanied by Rin. Additionally: there's a manuscript produced by the author of the series which confirms Shirou does not become Archer.

yup this universe ties into Garden of Sinners. Fate is just one small part of a greater universe. All timelines are canon and they all actually play a part into each other as some have speculated over the years that the archer that shows up in each version is from the others timelines ( people think the archer in HF is actually the UBW timeline version because of reasons I can't say it'll spoil ). Plus its pretty obvious the archer in this timeline is from shirous Fate route because he very clearly has the hots for sabre still and mentions how he failed to save her which is something only the Fate route shirou tries to do. Heavens Feel goes deeper into the origin of the grail and whats really going on so you'll understand this is a very small ritual in a corner of the world and it'll put perspective on the greater universe at work here.

In terms of just anime, the main timeline is just Zero, UBW, and Heaven's Feel (and the original Fate/Stay Night anime, if you really want to bother with it). Case Files of Lord El Molloi is technically in here too, but it's more of a side thing. (and I guess you could count some of the other spin-offs like the cooking anime or Carnival Phantasm in here, but those are just jokes) Then you've got the pedophile universe, with Prisma Illya -> Zwei -> Zwei Herz -> Drei -> Oath Under Snow -> Licht. The story's actually fire if you stick with it. It's just a bit... Then there's the cyberspace universe called "Fate/Extra" that's mainly just video games. There is one anime adaption called Last Encore, but it's completely fucking incoherent if you haven't played the PSP games (and just as incoherent if you have). Absolutely avoid Last Encore unless you're high and just want to watch Fate with Monogatari visuals and nothing making sense. And Apocrypha exists. It's mostly its own thing for once. Then there's the fucking Grand Order universe, which is based off a mobile game so damn long that they can only adapt bits and pieces of it. If you really want to want to go down the rabbit hole, the watch order on it is First Order -> the three Camelot movies -> Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia -> Grand Temple of Time: Solomon -> Moonlight Lostroom (although that last one's more of an add-on to the mobile game's story than something meant to be watched by itself) Each of these paragraphs are mostly separate from each other and, at most, only require that you've seen the main universe stuff. So just pick whatever sounds interesting and go from there.

I mean the main problem is that it's extremely condensed, even more so than the UBW anime adaptation. Considering that the VN route is still a full route's worth of content even with the parts skimmed over due to having already gone through them in 2 previous routes, the knowledge from UBW doesn't alleviate any of the compression problems. Still a good enough adaptation of the action scenes, but they cut out a huge amount of the character work (same issue with UBW but even bigger), especially the Illya stuff

Tbh while it is a pretty great adaptation, it's even harder for me to recommend it without at least having some other context for FGO (at least the other OVAs) since it's literally the penultimate chapter of the main story arc of that series that you're just dropping into lol. If you didn’t like it cool that’s your opinion but that’s all it is at the end of the day, an opinion like mine was and in my opinion the story is great as it for me HF delves deeper into characters we did and didn’t see much of in Ubw and still manages to portrays a refreshing and a amazingly well done story.👍🏿

None None has the answer I'm looking for. I was talking about all the Fates in general and they covered it in spades. I've seen stuff from all over and liked a bunch of them, but I had no clue there were movies that had the same characters from the 2 the gang reacted to. In fact I never even knew these movies existed and thought everything was just more Grand Order stuff that I had to check out after I watched First Order. That's what I thought I had to catch up on, but apparently there's plenty to watch still. I'm not too picky about any of it so I'll absolutely check them all out just to know what they're like. I actually liked Last Encore a lot even without playing the games. I only viewed the stuff before fights as a brief intermission and how it all started really had me hooked along with the whole heroic spirits reveal. That pretty much gets me every time so as long as there's that, I might just like most of these. Not mandatory though. Might be hard for me to get to the games... Btw, was Fate/Extella connected to Fate/Extra too? I've seen familiar characters on it's box art. Thank you for describing these in great detail, not just for me to learn about but to also figure out what I have and haven't seen, along with the exact order. This is the list that's going to help me the most so I'm saving it for sure!

Yes, Extella is set in the Extra universe, but it's a Musou-style beat-em-up that's half-sequel and half-spinoff. It has a surprisingly in-depth story for what it is. If you've seen Last Encore, you know enough to jump into it if you're curious. It also had a sequel called Extella Link with a significantly worse story, but MUCH better gameplay. If you're interested in the Extra stuff, there's also a remake of the first game in the works called "Fate/Extra Record" probably coming next year. And the fan translation of Fate/Extra CCC (universally considered the best thing to come out of the Extra universe) should be finishing up next year. If you find yourself with time, they might be worth keeping an eye on. (if manga is more up your alley, there's also Fate/Extra CCC Foxtail set in that universe. It's pretty bad at first, but does eventually find its legs)

Are you going to continue watching fate? If so let me explain. Fate/stay night has 3 different endings split into these 3 anime: Fate/stay Night- Route 1 Fate/stay Night UBW- Route 2 Fate/Stay Night Heaven’s Feel Movie Trilogy- Route 3 After the fate/stay night these are separate anime with their own story line. Fate/grand order(really good and I love getting to learn about some of the hero servants) Fate/apocrypha(absolutely amazing and should most definitely watch) Fate/Extra: Last Encore (a little confused as to when this takes place in the fate universe but still rlly great) There is a magical girl fate but i doubt you’d wanna watch that.

Its a "good" ending to the series and is an alternate ending to the ending we get. I think you can watch it if you google it, or just use any anime third party site. I disagree to an extent. If you're comparing the anime, then Zero edges out UBW. If you're comparing the source material tho, Stay Night demolishes Zero. The S/N adaptations are just pretty poor when it comes to pacing and storytelling. Regardless, I'm not sure why you think Zero has better characters. Kiritsugu, Kirei, Waiver, Rider and Gil were honestly the only ones I remember being that good. The rest were pretty forgettable and had next to no development imo.

I would say at least watch First Order and Camelot before Babylonia if they weren't going to play the game. First five singularities are kind of toss, but then again there is important stuff in them. I don't see them ever doing FGO though.

YOOOO I CAN'T BELIEVE I MISSED THAT DETAIL, "I WAS ALWAYS IN THE ARCHERY CLUB" In the first few episodes a huge point was made to show that he had long quit the archery club and the leader said "I figured you'd never join back since you were so good". This proves two things, his future self took a largely different path than Shirou meaning the outcome can change drastically for Shirou as well, secondly, Shirou most likely had his past memories coverted to Archer's past memories as they transfered information during their fight (For those who didn't understand, each time they clashed blades, Shirou gained more and more of Archer's ability and basically turned into him more and more, taking his memories as well.)

To the youn shirou, there's no indication that he will turn out like the archer shirou, they are going to live completely different lives, archer's point was for shirou to abandon his ideoligy cause he didn't belive in it anymore cause if fucked him up. In his timeline he got fucked but the shirou from this war is already different just by the fact that he saw a version of himself, there's no reason for him to abandon his ideology or to becomes the world's bitch, in fact this shirou never becomes a guardin.
