Also for ep 4 the animation was done by a different studio and it looks really bad to most people but it definitely a drop in quality. It's the only episode like that so don't worry

also surprised from this episode the weirdo kamina's dad conspirators didn't show up they usually cant help themselves to share their crack pot theory about how that's not really his dad even tho the creator of the show confirmed it and the opening scene had nothing to do with his father and there's nothing in the show that allows for the theory to be correct lol.

Way back in the far off year of 2006, someone once attempted to type "I'm gay for Archer" in a thread about how badass Archer from Fate/Stay Night was. Instead, he typed "I'm gar for Archer". From that day forward, "gar" became a universal term for any character as badass and manly as Archer. Then this show happened a year later and the term ended up associated with Kamina instead, because he was universally deemed more gar than Archer. Code Geass, Death Note, Haruhi (the big breakout anime from Kyoto Animation, the guys behind Violet Evergarden and arguably the biggest anime of the 00s), and a bunch of other A-list classics happened between the two shows. It was a hell of a time to be an anime fan. This shit really takes me back.

I love that in this show about masculinity, they include a character like Leeron. Even if he is a bit of a dated stereotype, the show doesn’t only treat him like a joke like a lot of media at the time did.

NOT A SPOILER: About that "flashback" scene. Forget you saw it. To put it simply it was one of the weirdest things the anime did and it never amounted to anything. There was never a scene in any future episode that leads up to that scene ever. Don't ask why because I had the same question too. So don't apply it to any theories you guys may have later on.

to be fair, boys age 14 is the target demographic for the show. Yoko being how she is is part of the theming. She's framed how a horny 14 year old boy would see her.

Yo Roshi, even if you guys don't react to it I highly recommend you guys go and watch the gurren lagann movies after y'all finish. They pretty much recap the series but go ham with the budget and add a bunch of cool stuff.

I actually have two theories about that scene's existence, one Doylist, and one Watsonian. I won't say the Watsonian one for now, because that has spoilers for the future story, but the Doylist reason I believe is that they HAD intended for that to be how the show turned out, but by the time they got there, the story had taken multiple massive turns.
