I think it hits way harder when you don't know the letters are for the kid. When I first watched I thought they were for distant relatives asking to help care for her daughter so when she first gets one of them you realise they are all for her.

You two caught on really quick. Not just on the premise, but how Anne was feeling lonely and jealous at missing time with her mother because she was aware their time was limited. I've seen a lot of people not realize that the letters were for Anne until halfway through, or later. So the emotional double whammy of Anne confronting her mother, and then the realization, just wrecks them. This is a top episode. Thanks. :)

Sheera was holding them in on this episode and the parasol episode. Anything with kids gets to her since shes a Mother. For me, its really hard for things to make me cry, doesn’t mean I dont find it to be emotionally gripping though!

As someone who has lost their mother at a young age, and as someone with (at the time) a newborn and a 3 year old daughter, episodes 7 and 10 both wrecked me. At the same time, I rewatched each like 3 times, they were just so good. The only anime that ever made me cry harder was "Grave of the Fireflies" , and the only one that made me cry more often was "A Place Further than the Universe". This is still one of my favorites of all time.

Episode 7 hit me harder than this. Episode 10 left me feeling happy. The amount of love shown by her mother by writing those letters is a happy ending not a sad one. Smiled the whole time when the letters were read.
