I'm sure many people have already said it, but the show follows the canon of the original games. Lord of Shadows was a reboot and has no bearing what happens in the show

The show follows loosely the original Castlevania timeline (the main timeline, not the one in Lords of Shadwo, which is a reboot of some sort) Chronologically, at least in the games, Trevor is the first Belmont who stood against Dracula with the legendary whip in hand. This particular plot is told in Castlevania III, which is as barebones as any other NES games in its time. So yeah, most of the scenes and dialogue is straight up new for this show.

This is loosely based on Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse and I think is going to continue into Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night material as well.
