Speaking from experience, you really do need to watch the movie or there will be stuff that makes no sense this season. It doesn't explain all your current questions, but it is set chronologically before part one of Alicization, and part 2 gets very confusing at the end without having watched the movie.

I don’t know why people are going crazy about watching the movie. It’s all not that important. I’m sure they have seen comments of people suggesting to watch the movie and I’m sure they will watch it if they want to so please stop bringing it up to their face. Not that I don’t want them to watch it but sheesh…

They kinda explained why they needed her in ep 6. They needed an AI thinks like a human, and the ability to kill since they can't used copied fluctlights since they would go crazy believing they were the original. Alice was the first bottom up AI to break the taboo index on her own which fit their criteria for militaristic use. At least from what I remembered. Please correct or add anything

Movie isn't that important for main story, but this season will have things from the movie. But there is possibility for future SAO story that movie plot had importance to it.

You do yourself a disservice to yourself and you disrespect the franchise in general sir, this is why Japan still doesn't place any emphasis on catering to the west even though they should be as the potential market here is enormous but instead we have ignorant ass people who literally claim that parts of series can be "skipped". One thing is to watch it for support the industry in the west, the other is because people are claiming the movie to be important to understand alizication when is not. I said people needed to relax because of that, if roshi and sheera want to watch it theres no problem with it but they're not gonna find some tipe of explanation about alizication there.
