I love how Tanya's attempts to appear courageous and competent always backfire on her. She thinks she has to appear strong and brave and extremely patriotic or they'll send her off on a crap assignment and leave her to die. Meanwhile, the high-ranking officers are all wary of sending her to a battlefield at all due to her age. Many of them would probably prefer to send her to a nice, safe post in the rear, but when they offer her a dangerous job she always accepts it and goes above and beyond to get it done.
