WOW what a movie! Our bodies are ready for season 2!!!

Killjoy

Kinda odd you say that, i haven't read the manga but i pretty much got everything you just said about bondrewd from the movie. He literally climbed up to my top 3 favorite villains in anime cause of it

Brian Estepa

Nah, him using Prushka is not in SPITE of his love for her (and her for him) but BECAUSE of that love. The regular suitcases simply keep him from being affected by the curse of the sixth layer, while the Prushka Case™ not only prevented the curse from affecting him, but also gave him the blessing of the abyss. As we observed with Mitty and Nanachi, the key to receiving the blessing of the abyss is nothing other than love itself. That is why Bondrewd used Prushka, to obtain the blessing - which is why its pretty significant that he ended up losing to the trio, he lost the blessing he obtained - remember when he became a furry like Nanachi? yea, did that all make sense

Tsuki

“Papa's Rod" is referring to "A rod which is used to become a papa", which she learned from Bondrewd while dissecting an animal.

Saraël Lele

insane how nobody ever adressed the fucking papa pole ever again. This is the most horrifying shit i've heard in my life

Daniel Borrego

bondrewd is definitely evil. i think what you mean is that hes not doing this out of malice or bad intentions. he thinks its necessary. he doesnt care about how others feel or what he does to them if in service of what he thinks is neccessary. Its a thanos'y type of thought process. but no one actually needs to go down the abyss. in the end, hes actually doing all this for himself and just hiding behind his grand good intentions. thats why hes evil.

Kryto Currencies

Probably cause no one wants to acknowledge wtf they meant by "papa pole" although she Probably just saw him naked showering or taking a piss one time, who knows.

EW Card Crazy

Ah this utter perfection is why i subbed. Simply Subarashii.

X

That's great! You've understood the story much better than most reactors I've seen out there then lol. Still I recommend you to read the manga if you've got time (this part is also not long, under 3 volumes) to see more details of what I mentioned. S1 and S2 have done a great job, but fans are just not convinced of the movie's adaptation (the production quality is top-notch though, of course).

razgrizraven

Funny thing is. He can ALWAYS recruit more. Guiera, the Umbra Hand that help raise Prushka, was originally a Merc sent to kill Bondrewd and ended up swearing loyalty to him.

razgrizraven

You can actually see this in a scene. The first movie that acts as a recap of the first half of season 1 also has some extra character footage of Lyza, Ozen, and Torka in like the first 5 minutes. It's pretty cool.

razgrizraven

Doubling back to this. The red umbra hand that was with Prushka was a movement body. Hunting down the Umbras would mean taking on a combat body like the one on the 4th layer. That ain't happening.

hyakimaru dono

How no one ever commented on the fact they randomly changed plans with no explanation and ended up leaving that pig alive will forever make me mad... howwww🙃

GhoulEx

Bondrewed did nothing wrong

Raider

I am ready to cry again

SuEsighdal

Bro im crying. Bro I'm in tears. It's here bois. Its fucking here.

Dylan

Yesss, been waiting for this day, hope the studio behind this got compensated well, and unfortunately a season 2 might not be a thing because the mangaka takes very long hiatuses between chapters

Senpai

Erd'na

The anime so close to manga that it's impossible to animate season 2. I don't know if the current manga arc is enough for a whole anime season to be honest.

Ads

yessssssssssssssss. s2 is in production

Saleenseven

Season 2 is under production tho...HxH will never get another season because the manga will never escape HIATUS

Ads

was tweeted recently

Saleenseven

Erd'na quick question - do you know what this S2 confirmation is then? They said its under production so surely there must be enough content? https://myanimelist.net/anime/41084/Made_in_Abyss_2

Kyle Hall

man i've been waiting for this thanks for getting it up guys

Vito

The music just always hit so hard in this show

razgrizraven

I think the most heartbreaking thing is. Meinya can only smell and establish that Prushka's flesh is right there, but not the whole girl herself. To make matters worse, Meinya tries to get under the cartridge as if that's Prushka's hat......Bondrewd isn't an anime villain. He is THE ANIME VILLAIN. He set the new bar for villains to reach.

razgrizraven

When y'all get the chance. The first movie, although technically a recap of the first season has a special scene in the first 4 minutes.

Brody

We are getting close to a point in the manga where a season 2 may become possible

Michael Corleone

Just to give specifics, Season 1 was chapters 1-27, movie was 28-38 and the manga is up to 56 (18 chapters ahead of where the movie ends)

MADM3N

10/10 Movie holy shit

Deshawn Smith

@ Lupa.. there is a 7th layer bro lmao

Ash

I've seen a lot of anime but this is one of the most sadistic things I've ever seen. ...I wanted to look away but I couldn't.

Homeskilletbiscuits

The creator actually got a lot of heat for the whole "papa pole" thing. He apologized and said that it wasn't intended to be sexual and explained the full story of that scene. I don't remember all the details but you can look it up if you want to know.

godUsoland

I've been waiting for this! Thank you!!! The OST in Made in Abyss is pure fire! Looking forward to everyone's chest hurting.

Deshawn Smith

@ Sheera ... The mask is only a symbol so destroying it wouldn't have amounted to much. Prushka did not know that Bondrewd switches bodies and saw only the person wearing the mask as her Papa. As indicated by the umbra hand on the 4th layer, Sending his conciousness between layers is difficult if not impossible. Nanachi was just being petty about wanting to destroy the mask. It only wouldve been a minor inconvenience for him

Deshawn Smith

Roshi, just to clear this up... Tsukushi (mangaka) confirmed that Bondrewd taught Prushka anatomy, including how a penis functions. She calls it a "papa pole" because it's the pole you use to become a papa. As you see in the movie, Bondrewd isn't the type to mince words. He'll flat out tell you anything without holding back.

Deshawn Smith

Pretty much all of Sheera's theories/comments throughout the movie were all wrong but a series like this isn't really predictable. GREAT reaction guys, you made my night w this one

godUsoland

Transcendance and Hanezeve OST is amazing! The whole OST is fire! Kevin Penkin does amazing work!

Ever Alezano

Is this worth watching if I haven't seen the 1st season yet?

Ben2730

no watch it from season 1 alot of explanation about their world it will be complicated if u miss them or you can just go youtube and search Made in abys season 1 in 5 mins they will literally explain the season 1 within 5 mins then u can watch the movie

Vns Tsoom

If you watch movie 1 and 2 (that are movie version of the anime series), Riko's father will be shown in there for a little. And it shows that when Lyza meets Torka, Riko's father, she already became white whistle.

Conf3tti

SUBARASHII

Erd'na

@Saleenseven based on the synopsis. It is the current manga story arc. In my opinion from what i've read, i don't think there's enough material to cover a 13 episode anime season. Sure the production company could do something to extend the story or could do a shorten one like 10 episode one. But as far as a full 13 episode anime season. I don't think they have enough material to use. It really depends on the author, he release manga chapter at a snail pace.

Vincent S Deluca

I think this was technically the S2 that was confirmed, could be wrong tho. It’s also very possible the season is confirmed but thy just need the manga to progress more first

Redback

🙏🙏❤️❤️🇦🇺🇦🇺

Dakotah

Made in Abyss S2 is definitely confirmed, and the next arc is much longer than this and is perfect for a tv anime, so I’m fairly confident we’ll be getting an anime series for S2. After S2 however, it might take a while for a S3 as we’ll be caught up to the manga and as others have said, the manga moves very slow. Super hyped for the next arc to be animated though.

Dakotah

Kinema Citrus have already confirmed they are working on S2 and they sent out a tweet months after the announcement saying they are doing well in production, so we are definitely getting a second season. A third season will be quite the long wait, unless the mangaka goes ham and starts producing chapters again at a quicker rate.

Dakotah

Super happy you guys finally got onto the movie! Made in Abyss for me is the epitome of a series that is somehow beautiful but also incredibly disturbing at the same time. This movie completely captured that and I couldn’t be happier with the adaption! Kinema Citrus is underway developing a season 2, and a small teaser for it is on YouTube as well. Really glad you enjoyed it!

Wallet

go watch higurashi if you wanna see worse sadistic shit

Hop981

Season 2 is on the way, the studio didn't have enough material from the manga, but now that volume 9 is finished, they have enough for the 2nd.

Alex

You think next arc actually tops the first season?

ttkxxp

Holy shit, I was waiting for it

Solatic Syot

Wtf, I knew he had explained what that meant, but how do you get heat for that? Like it's a story, he's the villain, did you not see what he's been doing to children already and you mad at that in particular?

Solatic Syot

That was a fantastic reaction, I'm really glad you guys "enjoyed" it.

Gosutoo 15

No you can not, it's like asking if you can watch season 3 of a show without having seen the first two. Just go and watch the first season it's only 13 episodes

Senjioh

I am glad that you guys are open to the idea of doing movies, I know its more work but my god is it worth it great work and thank you ^_^

Reign

i cant believe they let this mofo live after all that.

Deshawn Smith

They couldn't. He's basically immortal. At first, the plan was to destroy the zoaholic but Dark Reg incinerating a huge portion of the facility wasn't part of their plan. Both sides exhausted their strength. They don't even know how many umbra hands are out roaming. They'd have to kill every single one to completely get rid of him

godUsoland

Go watch Season 1, you can find it on VRV for free. It's only 13 episodes.

KB

LMAOO pretty sure she just said papa pole because a penis literally makes babies

Deshawn Smith

Yes, the 5th layer is very interesting. It tops season 1 content if adapted right

Vartic

This bastard woke up one day and decided to weaponize the power of love and friendship that those pesky anime protagonist always use.

yasmina C

i love how my player crashed when the movie was getting too intense haha. good timing

Gigi

no akudama drive reactions? :/

KdJ_II

Not even a minute in and y'all got me hollering at spare change comment 😭😭💀

Prime

They probably skipped a week to fit in MiA but who knows

Antonio Williams

Damn...they really woke up and chose "trauma" before watching this movie

T.J.Adams

Bondrewd, father of the year? lmao

Senjioh

Man after all the shit this guys pulls he still gets to live this show is gonna end me.

Senjioh

Wouldn't destroying his mask kill him for good?

Dakotah

His mask is symbolic, it doesn’t have any innate special effects about it. The Zoaholic is the plant looking device Riko finds that has transferred Bondrewds consciousness across all his umbra hands, so the only way to defeat him would be to find every single umbra hand and kill them.

Antonio Williams

The most messed up part about Bondrewd is that he actually grew to love all of his experiments legitimately. The cartridges wouldn't work if there wasn't mutual love.

Creed

so we not gonna talk about how he was probably pipen these kids

Jeremy Estrella 🇩🇴

I remember watching this then watching some thing heartfelt Violet Evergarden to balance it all out.....😫🤣

Vincent S Deluca

Ya gotta admit messed up as he is Papa Bondrewd is a great villain. Also there are 7 known layers but below that nobody knows anything besides the white whistles that are down there, there could be only 7 or 8 but there could be a ninth or even tenth too

Saleenseven

Thanks for reacting! Movie is TOP notch. Also waiting for s2

LUPASAN

FUCK BONDREWD

Garrett Olsen

It was probably more of the cultural "bathing with family" thing, but the way it was described and in the manga I read both did it no favors.

Garrett Olsen

I mean, he never asked anything of anyone he didn't of himself. It's just that he's also certifiably insane.

Splargle

Its confirmed that season 2 is in production but no release date, its expected sometime in 2022 though.

G A N G W A Y !

Anonymous

I had no idea this was out!

Pan Cakes

The reasoning that he does these cruel things because he wants to help humanity. he was the one that created most of the tech that cave raiders use, even though its fucked up the ways he finds out his creations.

Jonathan

Bondrewd gives me some serious Orochimaru vibes. Also his squad reminds me of the Knights of Ren. LOL

Alex cleveland

Bondrewd is soooooo fucked up, yet hes such a complex well written villain!!! That mf def deserve to die, but tbh he was very dope character. Well technically Bondrewd is still alive, we just saw at the end.

sunnyxo

little scene I wanted to point out, since nobody on the couch seemed to notice; After they initially figured out what Bondrewd's relic was and were coming up with a plan, Riko hugs Nanachi and tells her "That's our Nanachi! You're the brains of the team" which echo the words Mitty had said to her when they first decided to become partners.

Pan Cakes

he is a neccessary evil. Like he said his goal is to prepare humanity for 2000 years for the disaster even if his methods are disgusting.

razgrizraven

*Cue flashback sequence* *Bondrewd has one of the most epic anime fights and death* "Nah Nigga, like Herpes and Child Support, I'M BACK"

Davido

OMG I've never thought about it like that but that's soo true

Jonatan Tercero

Just saw this reaction . As a manga reader I can say that the writer releases a volume like once a year or every 2 years . Which is why anime content for it will always lag . There is enough content for season 2 . But after that there would only be like 10 chapters left to adapt . Only 9 volumes total so far . And 1st season and movie covered 5 volumes so far . Manga don’t seem like it’s close to done tbh . I can see the anime having 4 seasons

Daniel Borrego

i gotta say, meat suitcase is probably the darkest shit i've seen in an anime so far. that was fucked up.

razgrizraven

I'M A HAPPY FUCK! Season 2 confirmed for 2022.

Skebaba

Dude is not a hypocrite, tho. Literally used his own vessel as material for a White Whistle, to be used by himself

skratadu

Bruh, This is how Orochimaru should be. Bondrewd is a goated villain. Just pure evil

RuTo-San

I've never hated a character so much in my life that mofo evil AF

Friendly Elites

Who else is back here to build the hype for season 2!!!

jep2003

Damn. This movie always makes me feel sick multiple fucking times man. I hate it. Cant wait for more lol

Daniel Borrego

Even though we never see it, ainz does shit just as fucked up in overlord. or should i say ainz's crew does. and to 10's of 1000s of people too. the parchment they get for the scrolls came from a 'different beast' , in other words, they were skinning humans alive. healing them, and then skinning them over and over and over again. and thats the nice stuff.

Daniel Borrego

As messed up as this anime is, it really has the most compelling world building i've come upon in fiction at least in anime. it really captures the double edge of curiosity that all humans have. like we all know going down this hole is not going to end well, but we all want to find out whats down there too. I would imagine eventually they would have to crawl because the effects of the curse would be so bad that even getting onto your knees would be enough of a change in elevation as to bring the curse down upon you. Its kinda ironic(im sure planned too) that riko fell into a pitcher plant on the way down, because its VERY possible that the abyss is a monster pitcher plant.

Tom

This was brutally good.

godUsoland

lmao, I was so tired last night I actually went to bed listening to this.

Ty Ngouamo

Why I love his character. As fucked up as he is, he is genuine and honest. You notice that for the most part he wasn't the one starting fights in the movie, and instead of lying about taking Reg he straight up said what happened. I saw this one comment saying he's the most selfless black whistle and I agree, I find that crazy considering how much I hated him after the movie

Ty Ngouamo

Him dying would be a major hit to the advancement of cave raiding tho, as much as it sucks he's a necessary "evil"

HessianX

Hear me out, Bondrewd did nothing wrong. He's just a late game Mine Crafting and making use of resources.

RussellSD

Bit late but I am pretty sure the explanation was that by papa pole she meant it was explained to her as the pole you use to become a papa.

Aziouss

People seem to have forgotten that the actual man is dead what we see an AI reconstruction of him. They said that the Relic used for that makes you insane i suppose The AI copy of himself kept is scientific drive without any of the empathy a human has. That is why he behaves is such a pure logical fucked up way.

Ramone Moore

A fukin papa pole is crazy wtf welp lets see what next season got

Tom

Flash backs are always pain full . I have learned from this and Onepiece

JackLover19

I'll be back in like 2 months

SeriouslyJet

I don't know with y'all but the author of this sure is fucked up to think of child experimentation stuff, I mean FMA has that one shou tucker story that got all the anime fandom gone bonkers and here is made in abyss author throwing a full a la carte of child brutality like its nothing. Fictional as it maybe be still so fucked to even come up with such idea. Don't get me wrong, I like the anime. The only thing that makes this palatable is its top notch story and originality.

Rex Perez

There are literally more fucked up animes, shows, and stories. Bruh

SeriouslyJet

Yes, there are more fucked up but not as popular and mainstream as this anime series in its medium(anime/manga) currently. I mean just look at how "creatively" the author mutilate the characters. You've got to be a little fucked in the head to think such stuff. I do understand on how he has to set the dark tone of the series through the juxtaposition of the innocent wholesome looking character design with its dark theme to hype up the viewers. Hopefully he'll tone down some of this stuff this season.

SeriouslyJet

I do like dark anime, its just that fucking up kids is a recurring theme for this author and I was not wrong. Just saw Episode 1 of season 2. Child Rape? I mean seriously, there's a difference between using such theme to propel the story forward. And the author seems love to use such theme a little bit too much. In my opinion the story at this point of the show doesn't need such excessive stuff of these kind of theme. The mysterious plot itself is very good to hook the viewer on watching it.

Kevin Barz

i don't think Bondrewd was really evil, he never meant anything bad by it, it's just that his actions were fucked up. And on a fun fact, Bondrewd didn't lie even once when talking, he literally meant everything he said

ChickenDinners

I think a major theme is that things will get worse and more depraved the deeper they go. We will have to see where the manga and anime go.

Diponmychip

but like Rex said there are more fucked up shows but your reasoning was because this one was more popular and I still just think you don't like when an anime gets dark past your limit as for me I know these things are fucked up but seeing how much there is gets me even more hooked onto it cause I want to see things get better and like chicken said it gets darker the farther they go.

Haaa?

i dont know how you can see the things he has done and say that. It doesnt matter what his intentions were his actions say everything.

Louis Kalman

There is absolutely no way you go through all of that and leave the dude alive. You hunt down every Umbra Hand and annihilate homeboy from existence. He will just do the exact same thing he already did, now with the knowledge the only people who were able to stop him have left. It blows my mind they leave him alive after all of that. I guess that's just the kind of character Riko is. The story is about them singlemindedly plunging forward into basically sure death. It's a good story though. Good movie. I'm all about dark fantasy but this mangaka is nuts.

Kevin Barz

what do you mean? i never said that his actions are justified, i'm just saying he doesn't do it because he's evil or has malicious intent behind it

ChickenDinners

intent is irrelevant. He still experimented on kids. It doesn't matter what his grand ambition was or is.

Savage

When he says "Everythings ready for the next 2000 years", you just know he knows exactly what's happening in the 7th layer and has control over / plans for everything going on and nothing was even hindered in his plans.

Louis Kalman

I think he said he was ready because he got the blessed body, which would let him survive the next 2000 year calamity. It was destroyed so it does ruin his plans, but he can probably just repeat the process at this point.

Chimera134

Oh yeah just wanted to say for others, the author confirmed in an Interview that the Umbra Body that received the blessing was not Bondrewd's strongest Umbra/Spare body. The author said that if it had been the Flamethrower Umbra from Layer 4 who Bondrewd took over, Reg wouldn't have been able to do half as much and that isn't even the strongest Umbra as far as we know. The MCs got soooooo lucky that Bondrewd took over a mobility Umbra and not one of the exterminator ones.

Kaitsu Tokiyas

for extra lore, the insect we seen on early show was brought by regu when he cross from 6th layer to up there. so they wonder whey this insect is in here...

Drake Rage

I am happy they were somehow able to turn the negative emotions in me into something positive at the end. I have a lot to say but its best if I don't or it would be like the Flood Gates getting smashed open. I am satisfied with how it ended. Happy that Prushka got to join them on their adventure as a White Whistle shaped like a Heart. (I am going to try not to think about her backstory because it will most definitely break me) So, I am guessing Lyza's Husband was the "sacrifice" to make Lyza's Whistle? Probably unintentionally since Ozen was vague when she talked about it saying, "First him, then Riko born as a stillborn," which had made Lyza super depressed. So, I don't think she is a bad person or that she chose to sacrifice the Dad to make herself a White Whistle. More like things fell into place and the Dad was in a similar situation to Prushka, and ended up making a White Whistle for Lyza. I am glad that Reg is "rechargeable" because it didn't make sense to me that he only had 3 Incinerator shots left because he consumes food and electricity.. so I had already thought that he was rechargeable. Also, the White Whistle dude was like the worst type of person to fight against since he would literally just compliment you even while losing and in the end said "I loved your teamwork, solid planning, you deserve the Win. You have my support, go follow your dreams!" Bruh, you were so horrible to me and made me go through so much PAIN, but he would just be like "But it made you stronger right?" (Its crazy how his mindset reminds me of my shitty fucking parents, Fuck..) Anyway, um, Good Movie! 😅

Drake Rage

I think the saying that applies here is "The road to hell is paved with good intentions."

Magical Drinking

The soundtrack to this movie is absolutely GOATed

Kinkaz

Lyza was already a white whistle before she got married, when she introduced her husband to Ozen, she was wearing it. Ozen was saying that Lyza was in a lot of pain from having 2 people she loved die and so recently.

Drake Rage

Oh I see. I guess Lyza's White Whistle info will take a while to be revealed then.

Morgan

I have a theory that Bonedrewd's initial intent was not to sacrifice his daughter. He cared for her for so long... just to turn her into a meat suitcase? He had plenty of suitcases that he didn't raise that worked just fine. I genuinely believe that incarnation of him had some affection for her that was immediately lost when he switched bodies and lost more of his empathy/humanity. As soon as he switched bodies he stopped holding his arms out for her, plus the talk about the corruption of consciousness immediately after that. The "revived" Bonedrewd took one look at her and knocked her out, and we've never seen him treat her like that before then. He probably couldn't comprehend why "he" had been keeping her alive for so long.

X

Exactly the point. This is not a "good vs. evil" story. Everybody in this story is nuts, with Riko probably being the craziest of them all. Riko doesn't care about the experiments at all or apply our modern society's moral standards on anything. Didn't Bondrewd even say that "you're more of a kindred spirit than I thought"? And the guy above you is right: Bondrewd literally meant everything he said and he genuinely loves the children. There's not one stereotypical character in this whole story and every character leaves you so much food for thought. Tsukushi is such a genius.

X

Exactly. He is already more of a "concept of exploration" than a human being by common standards. He never lied, but his way of thinking is so different from the normal morality that from the eyes of a commoner he's just beyond comprehension. In the end, everybody in this story is nuts, with Riko probably being the craziest of them all. This is exactly the charm of the series: There's not one stereotypical black-and-white character in this whole story and every character leaves you so much food for thought. Tsukushi is such a genius.

X

> ChickenDinners Exactly the point of the OP. By the morality of our modern society the actions are beyond limits. But what has to be understood here is that in the Abyss everybody is nuts (with Riko probably being the craziest of all) and the standards are warped (e.g. think of the shipwrecked explorers in the 19th century who had to make the decision of eating some of the dead comrades, who would then be judged by the common law once they return to the society). To fully appreciate the story one has to look beyond the stereotypical black-and-white. I can't become a fan of Bondrewd but I also can't dislike or despise him, similar to Wazukyan. It's more a thing of trying to observe objectively and see where everybody is coming from. This is exactly what makes this series so fascinating.

X

And by the way, the movie left out a lot of explanations and backstory and didn't do this arc justice. He's called the Sovereign of the Dawn because he's made a ton of contributions to the explorations in a short amount of time and hugely pushed the technologies of their time forward. It can be assumed that the explorers and the city wouldn't want him dead at all. This world is surely messed up by any "normal" standard of our society.

X

The movie totally ruined a lot of the backstory and explanations in this arc (just some examples: how Bondrewd is known for pushing the boundaries of science forward, how Bondrewd means everything he says and never lies, how Bondrewd truly loves the children, how Prushka knows of the catridges all along and has always been wiling to sacrifice herself, etc. It's probably not a surprise that many viewers would dislike Bondrewd and simply think of him as a "villain" after just watching the movie, but if they go read the manga, they'd understand the complexity and nuance behind the story. Bondrewd even enjoys quite some popularity among a big part of the fandom (I can't go that far though). Tsukushi is truly an insane genius.

Zanath Kariashi

part of what they cut out is that his experiments are largely common knowledge among the guild, to the point that Habo does NOT hold back talking about them to Nat and Shiggy like he did on the subject of white whistle weaponry. And is awe of his accomplishment and considers it laudable that he destroys anything in the way of progress with no regard for morality, belief, or tradition (which is where his epitaph "The Novel" comes from).
