I agree with you on that last bit about aluka showing up just to heal gon and that they should have done more foreshadowing than a simple family photo is how I felt watching this arc

They DID actually hint at Alluka early on. They showed the family photo where Alluka was turned away from the camera just after the hunter exam arc I believe(during the Killua rescue mini-arc) and when they were taking the tour bus to the mountain the tour guide explained how there were 5 Zoldyck siblings(Illumi, Milluki, Kalluto, Killua and Alluka)but we only meet the other 4 when we first go to the mountain(For obvious reasons)

Alluka was hinted at in the Chimera Ant arc when Kalluto thinks about finding Killua and we see the picture of the Zoldyck family. Also, Killua forgot Alluka existed due to Illumi's needle which he removes in the Chimera Ant arc.

Roshi, they actually did hint about Alluka before with showing the family portrait, I believe more than once and also the mentioning of another brother, but it gets usually overlook because of how many brothers there already are. Especially since other than Killua, everyone else calls Alluka "a brother or something else," rather than a girl that could help you understand they aren't referring to the other 4 brothers mentioned. Honestly, I just learned this year that Alluka was trans because I really thought she was just a guy who dressed girly.

Alluka wasn't necessarily hinted at, but she was definitely in the silhouette of the Zoldyk family at shown on the intros to episodes 23-25 and she was shown in the Zoldyck family picture in episode 97.

They hinted at Alluka/the rest of Killua's brothers as far back as episode 24. Of course not going into full detail or anything but it's not like they just showed up out of nowhere lol. edit: commented before i refreshed lool i guess everybody else beat me to it then

I second what everyone’s already said lol + if you choose to continue the series by reading the manga, there’re more full circle moments there. highly recommend picking up reading the manga after the anime ends even though it isn’t finished yet lol

Alluka was in all the Zoldyk family pictures and referenced indirectly several times. It's just that there are so many plot threads going and connecting at once throughout the series that some references get forgotten until brought to the front by the main plot

Alluka was also kinda foreshadowed by Zoldyck sibling’s naming pattern. IlluMilluKilluA(llu)Kalluto (Order by their age) So there was a fan theory for his/her existence even before this arc. I think it’s so cool

Yeah this is more obvious when written in kana as it's easier to see the last character in the name of the older brother being used to start the next siblings name (like the game shiritori that they play in this episode).

I always thought the fact that we dont know about Alluka fits with the story, it shows how well the Zoldycks can make someone disappear without anyone noticing (except for themselves).

I don’t want to say too much but Alluka is an introduction to the next arcs after the anime, so I think she serves that purpose really well. Also as others said, she was hinted at a few times previously throughout the show.

Alluka IS hinted at earlier in the story. Shes in that family photo they showed when the zoldyck are introduced, i believe. Thats why they used the same image. I didnt notice it till rewatching the show.

Roshi, you should sub your background for you green screen *before* you add your source video overlay. The green in the source (bean’s head, cheadle’s hair) is getting overwritten with your background. I’m guessing you changed your process since it wasn’t an issue with Gon’s outfit before.

In the dub Killua refers to Alluka’s second persona as “Nanika” not “Something”. Nanika does translate to “something” but I’m not sure the subtitles left the direct translation when they could have used it as her name. It makes it sound like Killua doesn’t care about her even though he loves both personalities

In regards to wishing Alluka was hinted at before - the image they used at the end of 138 in which Illumi is explaining about Alluka is the exact same one that is used when we are first meeting the Zoldycks. Alluka has been a part of the picture all along :)

For sure alluka wasn't that well set up compared to a lot of the other characters. I think a lot of the comments are from the perspective of rewatch or manga so they dont see how blindsided the anime will have you
