The villains, most importantly. Zaheer and Kuvira are awesome. None of the ATLA villains were nearly as well-written.

I just posted my comment about being excited to see the LoK reactions, JUST finished the last part of ATLA! Gotta love when the drop comes at the right time! I didn't know that. But I do know there was tension between the studio and the creators which caused issues in season 4. I remember being annoyed when the episode releases became inconsistent and ultimately went to streaming only.

Not to spoil anything to them. But these events is why S1 and S2 endings were like that. There were suppose to be the end of korra. Hence the disjoint, unlike S3 and S4. The story is more woven together because both seasons were planned together.

ATLA has 6 books out currently. The Promise is #1. Start there. It fills in a lot of the unanswered questions, and show what they have been up to after the war.

Most of the bad comes from issues with Nick. S1 was planned. S2 was sprung on them last minute. Then, they were told they had to make 4 seasons, but they were given enough time that they came out well. Except near the end of S4, where they were told to either fire half their staff, or make a clip episode to save the budget.

I'm only 1:20 in, but I will say that that was alot of fans' problem back then (mine included). TLAB was such a masterpiece that we couldn't just watch LOK for what it was. It went in a different direction story-wise that I think alot of us weren't ready for. We hated that there was that big-ass time skip, we needed some answers lol. But I've rewatched it twice since then and its awesome in its own right. You won't be disappointed.

Okay, just a heads up. If the plot of Korra seems rushed that's because the directors were originally green-light for 12 episodes, that's also why she came out being nasty with 3 out of 4 elements. They were then green-light for a second season, then a 3rd and 4th at the same time. Keep that in mind when you watch it. I think that's why most people don't like Korra as much as AtLA because (without spoiling anything from the rest of the show) she come off as a Mary Sue.

I hate some of these characters like korra, for example, but I will stick it out and try my best to see it all the way through. They had such a good set up, great characters, love the changes to the world. But I just cannot stand Korra herself. I might like her if I watched season 3, but it wasn't out when I watched it and never felt like finishing it.

You're probably right about possibly liking Korra after watching season 3. Without spoiling (not that you'd care I'd assume) the main villian in season 3 literally breaks and humbles her by the end of the season. She basically spends most of season 4 trying to get over the trauma of what happened in season 3 and get her "mojo" back.

man, lets do this. I love LoK almost as much as ATLA. It has its flaws, but some of the most memorable moments as well. Is it a masterpiece, no, definetly not - buts its a hell of a good show!

As an ATLA fanatic I loved Korra. No, it's not as good, especially considering the nostalgia I have attached to ATLA but still a really good show! Most of the things that annoyed me were due to Nickelodeon fucking them over. As mentioned above they were only cleared for one season initially, then after season two, they were told about a third and fourth season, only for the last season to be put online. They also cut the budget in the second season and instead of firing people, the writers decided to work around it and save all the action for the last half of the season, which in my opinion is the best part of the show, after season 3 of course. Also, Sheera is right! She is the complete opposite and it is important to remember that.

fun fact, in the comics, when ever aang and katara would kiss, sokka would say they gave him the "oogies". Tenzin grew up hearing sokka saying "oogi" when ever aang and katara were nice to each other... so basically, he named his sky bison after their parent´s love. "oogi"

For me I could never get into TLOK when I first caught it airing. Never made it past season 1. But I was younger then and I compared it way too much. Recently gave it another go during quarantine, and BOY I loved it! TLOK is different from ATLA, sure there are some flaws but I think it also has its strengths, particularly how the conflicts are way more complex and closer to the times we live in now. Just think the supporting cast was a little lacklustre. But still an amazing show, especially what they did with animation... some of the sequences are FIRE. Hope you really enjoy it!

Just binged your reactions to atla and I just figured I'd check out if you were gonna do lok and y'all are already 2 seasons in! cant wait to watch them alllllll. imo I think Korra gets a lot of smack because she's a girl and so unlike aang (and lowkey people dont like it when you hold up a mirror to the audience lol) so I love that you guys said you're not gonna compare it because these 2 shows have SO many great messages but theyre very different. -also truly appreciate the full reactions here its so great and I think like many others, its fun to watch you guys watch a show that someone else holds dear lol! I highly recommend rewatching both again, honestly throughout life, you'll catch new details every time, its not a kids show! also last thing I swear, tenzin is a VERYYYYY common name because the current Dalai Lama is named tenzin gyatso so if you ever meet a youngish Tibetan person theyre likely named tenzin in honor of him (its gender neutral)...I used to get made fun of my name at white girl horse camp LOL they thought they had originality and called me tarzan....TURN TABLES.... cant wait for you guys to finish this series!

Not sure if this is mentioned, but the advancement in technology makes perfect sense. In ATLA, the Fire Nation was the most technologically advanced nation, using Ironclad warships. These warships were first mass-produced and used in the Civil War or the mid-1860s. By these rules, ATLA = 1860 technological possibilities, though certain things were not produced (telegraph) because of things like messenger hawks. 70 years after 1860 is 1930, and Republic City looks like NYC in the '30s

ngl I was so disappointed in LoK. It's a dumpsterfire of unnecessary stupidity and BS politics. I hate politics. Of course this is only my opinion, do with it what you will, but the only redeeming quality of the show, is the deep dive into this universe's history and lore, seeing some familiar faces again, and finding how Aang fared after the epic victory over the Fire nation. Also, some of the invented bending and inventions are interesting. The only reason I'm even watching it again is to see how you guys like it, because you three always on-point with the references from other shows, and sometimes you point out things I've missed,even in my favorite shows. To be fair, I am hoping that somehow you'll convince me to like LoK, but it's gonna take a lot of doing get me on board with it. Like the amount of doing that made us like Zuko enough to accept him as part of team avatar, after his betrayal under Ba Sing Se.

Saying the problem with Korra is that she's a girl instead of a boy is a pretty massive strawman, lol. Yes there are sexists in the world, but in large part the complaints about this show are due to the writing and some of the contrivances. However, I do think a lot of those people are holding ATLA up on a pedestal and unfairly degrade Korra for some feeling of 'defending' ATLA.

Been holding back watching this reaction cause it always hurts when people crap on Korra despite her achieving far more than most Avatars in bringing balance to the world and beyond. All this despite all the handicaps borne mostly from being imprisoned in and around a temple in the middle of nowhere, isolated from both the physical and spiritual worlds. Also despite how all her villains were so intense they would have clapped Fire Lord Ozai even during Sozen's comet. Most of the damage to her reputation, as well as the whole show's reputation, comes from season 2, and Season's 3 and 4 just didn't do enough to fix it in the eyes of many viewers. I still say that despite her attitude in season's 1 and 2, her instincts were always right. She was just abrasive and rude in how she handled people contradicting her. Especially people that care about her. Once again though, I attribute that to being imprisoned most of her life by the White Lotus. That alone would've made her very suspicious towards any authority figure tied to the White Lotus directly and indirectly including her parents for allowing it.

Unless you include blood bending, I don't think a single character in Korra other than the Avatar herself could do jack shit against Ozai during the comet. No one throughout the whole show really showed any bending of that scale. As much as I hate to say it, Ozai was probably the best on screen fire bender from both shows
