Here's the thing about his hat. Sometimes character design doesn't take logic into account, and when it needs to be modeled, animated, or adjusted, that becomes apparent. Take Sonic's gross ass single fucking eyeball that isn't separated by anything for example lmao. They handled it well though, they made it look like all this time his hat was just all scuffed at the back.

Why were these guys talking out loud to begin with? Stand users can communicate telepathically, as demonstrated by the fake ship captain in the earliest episodes. Maybe that's why the water stand didn't attack Joseph "yelling".

lmao, that hat discussion near the end was absolutely hilarious. I agree with Sheera though, it looks like it is kind of ripped so the cloth strings kind of look like hair and it blends with his own hair.
