It's always comes down to the way it's adapted. Since the studio is able to take liberties since like Season 1 which was just used to push LN sales. The director or whoever just kept it like that when it could be so much better

It’s not been that long since I have read the LN and I was hooked to it especially near the end. I loved the LN. On the other hand The anime adaptation of all 3 seasons as a whole is pretty mediocre, but I guess that’s just how it goes with most LN adaptations with few exceptions

the light novel basically goes by class year and this is the final year 1 volume. so you should get year 2 volume 1. if youre looking for pdf sites i reccommend royal mtls they do a good job at translating them

Let me give you some perspective cause it's not just "opinion". Eminence in shadow adapted 2 volumes into 20 episodes, and still had to skip a few parts which is okay, that's the best they could do. Meanwhile, with Classroom of the Elite, each season has adapted 3-4 volumes into 12-13 episodes with more than a quarter of the content being kept out per season, most of it being important. The point is that the studio isn't even trying to make this into a good adaptation. From the start it was mostly to promote the light novel and such which is why it took so long for a season 2 and 3 despite the popularity it gained. Season 4 will be the most action-filled season so far if it gets adapted so it probably won't be as obvious as this season that skipped so much, however if the studio doesn't switch there's no way it's living up to the hype everyone is giving it.

Yea lol I did recognize some of the scenes from side story volumes. It’s alright I guess. After all we went ahead read the novel 🤷‍♂️ it would be hard to properly get the point across when only us readers know the full context of what was left out

WE’RE DONE YEAR 1!! You guys were doing my boy Koji dirty 💀. Few things from the LNs that got left out / weren’t as clear : - I think you guys confused Ichinose with Kei. Ichinose has peach-coloured hair in the anime and is the leader of Class B and Kei has blonde hair and a ponytail. There's a large female cast so can't blame you. - I know everyone skips the opening but they updated it with Suzune’s new hairstyle and look. - What you guys said about Ayanokoji helping everyone level up is true and goes back to the white room flashbacks. He is an extremely conflicted character. He has the sociopathic elitist persona he developed from having to rise through the white room his entire life, but at the same time he hates his dad a lot and wants nothing more than to see him and his philosophy fail (Which they left out from his dialogue when he first met sakayanagi). That’s why so many of the things he does are contradictory. He’s trying to make everyone at the school better so they can finally beat him but at the same time he can’t stand losing because of the trauma he has from getting punished if he ever lost. - What Ryuen did during the final exam to Ichinose’s class was put laxatives in their food to make all the main players for the class absent on the day of the exam. - They didn’t mention this but Ryuen also figured out a clever workaround for the exam. You needed to select a different number of students for each event in the exam but he bypassed that by choosing all martial arts events and setting them as “tournament style”, that way it would still just be a bunch of 1 v 1 fights with his goons who are all good fighters. - Ryuen was very sloppy and left all the evidence behind because he didn’t care if he was expelled. Ayanokoji was telling him that if he ever wants to beat him he’s gonna have to lose the “All or nothing” mentality and evolve his methods somehow. Koji says that Ryuen will probably think of some crazy way that he’d never even think of and he’s ready for it. - Ayanokoji was lying when he said he was already using like 70-80% of his effort, he just told Matsushita that so she wouldn’t expect a lot from him going forward. - Matsushita also hides her smartness from everybody just because she also doesn’t want to stand out too much but she’s not anywhere close to Koji. - The scene at the end was beautiful and sad, Koji was praying to himself that getting the chance to experience human warmth will finally make him smile without faking it, but we see it didn’t. It was likely Manabu telling him to leave a mark on the people if he doesn’t want to leave a mark on the school itself that drove him to confess to Kei. - As you can see he only wants to date Kei to learn about something new that he couldn’t even learn in the white room, love. He’s hungry for knowledge and they said back in the s2 portion of the LN that he has more knowledge than most people gain in their lifetimes. - A really common misconception is that he doesn’t have any emotions. He does but he just doesn’t show it on his face. If you go back to some scenes in s1 and even the Kushida scene where she first blackmails him, he’s much more expressive. He was trying to fake being a normal high schooler but eventually he just gives that up and stays as the stoic guy who is super average. - He CAN change his face and smile but he's just faking it. What he wanted at the end was to genuinely smile on his face without noticing or faking it. It doesn’t help that the anime removed his monologues where he says how he’s feeling and when he’s lying so you just have to take a lot of things at face value. Now some important things to remember for year 2!: - The caller in Episode 3 or 4 of this season who called Ayanokoji in the middle of the night and just said his name to make sure it was him. This comes back eventually but looong after it’s foreshadowed so it’s good to just keep in mind. - Ryuen STILL has that contract that he made with Class A at the end of the island exam in S1. He made the deal with Katsuragi (Bald guy) that in the island exam they would give Class A a bunch of their resources and information, in exchange they get private points from Class A every month until graduation. Key take away here is that Ryuens pockets are slowly filling up as time goes on. - Chairman Sakayanagi is still suspended but Arisu and the teachers for Class A and C are going to help Ayanokoji be protected from Tsukishiro as much as possible. - Horikita’s deal with Koji for the next written exam. If Horikita wins then Koji can’t pull his usual BS and say “Nah”, he has to give it his all from now on. If Koji wins Horikita has to join the student council. - Kanzaki from Class B has been there since season 1, but he’s now starting to get frustrated at how flustered Ichinose’s mental state has been and is kinda fine with taking the smoke to get to Class A now. - Remember Kushida STILL apparently has that extra blazer with Ayanokojis fingerprints and is blackmailing him that she’ll accuse him of rape if he tells anyone about her real personality. She also has the deal with him that Ayanokoji must transfer half of his monthly private points to her. - The new first years are coming with a white room student mixed in supposedly! The anime is quite different from the source, but I liked it a lot and sometimes this is how it has to be and there’s nothing you can really do about it other than support it. Let’s pray they don’t outsource as much in the future. HOPEFULLY WE GET SEASON 4 OR A MOVIE AND IT’S NOT LEFT IN LIMBO AGAIN!

Nah they only dealt with her spare blazer she's been wearing with the cheat sheet during the paper shuffle exam. She still has her blazer with Kojis fingerprints in her room (This is all according to her btw but if you've read into Y2 you'll know how this ends up).

Based on what ive read from the light novel, ayanakoji doesnt actually want to be the way that he is. At the end of the episode he says he hopes there is a future where he wont look at kei as just a learning experience, which i think they misunderstood

At least Ayanokoji is hoping that he doesn't just discard Karuizawa after he gets all that he could out of her, his intentions for getting into the relationship wasn't genuine but he's hoping that he could change

Ayanokoji wants to learn more about romance so Kei is called a textbook as a guide not a tool. The anime does such a terrible job with Ayanokoji's personality where he can actually have emotions and human thoughts in the LN.

I think he wants to care and that he believes his best chance to care about somebody is going to be with Karuizawa... but he's also not someone to deny his true self. If his true self is a POS emotionless robot, he's going to roll with it. At least he's trying to break through though.

I see a lot bring up stuff from the Light Novel to “give context” or “better explain” what’s going on with Ayanokoji but I think the animators have just changed the character of Ayanokoji in general. They aren’t leaving things out necessarily but node have changed the character to be more stoic and way less empathetic. LN Ayanokoji is not the character they want in the anime.

Y'all missed that last explanation NGL. Ayanokouji is using her yes, both for her to grow and so that he can learn about romance/love. But he wants that romance to actually happen. That's why he says let's pray that with someone precious in my arms (Karuizawa kei) that I'm smiling. That being said I'm still mad he called my girl a textbook lol.

Yea I was going to say the same thing, they missed possibly the BIGGEST part of the episode near the end. Ayanokoji's whole thing is that he was forced to become the way he is from the White Room, right now he is like a child figuring out the world for the first time in some aspects. Since he has never known romantic feelings (or feelings in general) he couldn't process the thought of loving someone, that's why he is 'using' (again, him saying 'using' stems from the White Room, not him) Kei like a textbook, to study and see if there is a possibility where he wouldn't dispose of people like they're tools. Although I don't know to a certainty, because I'm anime-only.

This could be taken as him being hopeful for a change in himself caused by Kei that'd allow him to smile, or that the moment has already past and he's confirmed he does not value romantic feelings, because it does pan up to his face and he is not smiling.

At the end of the last season Ayanokoji was hoping that his relationship w Kei would be able to change him, and here he really is interested in romance and he even say "lets pray" that I actually evolve emotions and start actually liking you, so I can smile with you, but he still a Demon at this point lol
