The fighting is the only redeeming quality about this anime. If it wasn't for these guys' commentary I would've dropped it a while ago because it doesn't feel like the plot is going anywhere.

bro if i saw a giant genie pop out of someone i would probably address that first my guy. especially if it connects to his ideals of strength and honki information. the two people he looked up to the most brought him into the ideals of honki people so in his mind they were on a pedestal up until now. finally arajin tells him the truth so he can grow from here, but no doubt it hurt him to hear arajin ran away as much as it hurts him to hear about his brother.

It's messed up that Matakara had that perception of Arajin and constantly brings it up to him but Arajin is worse for allowing Matakara to have that perception and never correcting him on it until now. Arajin just abandoned him with nothing to go off on except the relationship they had before and Matakara just kept that image of him thinking everything was ok.

Both Arajin and Matakara have been L's, BUT...I think this show is clearly about growing up and moving past harsh differences and grudges. I'm sure they'll have them butt heads at first, but they'll come back together somehow along with the Djinns. Each of the characters have been given obvious flaws for a reason, y'all.

Here's the way I saw it: Matakara's brother is the one who told him about Honki people and was a very strong and kind inspiration to him. Arajin when they were kids is the one who actually inspired him to be a Honki person, but when he realized they were in over their heads and it's "dumb kid shit" he dipped and forgot about that. Matakara still believed in it while growing up. Arajin doesn't want anything to do with that mf anymore because he's not actually the type of person Matakara believes he is and he's annoying. Shindo planted doubt in Matakara's mind about Arajin, and the reason he was bringing it up when his brother was dying, is because Honki people were his brother's beliefs and his whole life he thought Arajin was that type of person.

It's an exhausting trope and even worse when the MC is mindlessly salivating over a girl who clear doesn't fuck with him. I give Matakara's slack because Arajin was technically his strength as he really looked up to Arajin. I wouldn't even call it an obsession, Mata obviously really admires him, it's debatable if it goes past that or not but of course he's going to constantly mention becoming a Honki person with Ara.

There's a difference between a flawed but well written character and an unlikable character. Almost everyone in this show is just straight up unlikable. It speaks volumes to a show when the most likable character in a show is a nigga that doesn't talk.
