Ya squirrel's been busy. No wonder movies have so many people on them.

Just figuring out the home in its entirety - how it fits into a story - has been a struggle. But it's been a fun struggle. I don't do visual development for environments often so I'm in new territory. Feel free to read through my ideas!

VIS-DEV - JUDY'S HOME

Judy lives in a brownstone home-turned-rental property by it's owner (who lives on the first floor) on a [deciduous] tree-lined street. She was originally the only tenant on her floor until I removed some of the space she had and gave it to a rodent family. Not sure if she's the top level or not, but I've considered giving her a skylight if that's the case. She lives not far from the plaza in Savanna Central.

Some views from Judy's room of the city in the early morning and late evening (with Cotton). The back directly below offers a view of the landlady's modest yard, who's vine's travel up the entire rear façade giving Judy some additional greenery in the city. Judy sometimes shouts to her from the window to give compliments on her yard plants. The yard features either a Royal Poinciana or a palm tree, an ode to the backyard tree of the Heeler family or Lucky's Dad's tree in the Australian show Bluey (the landlady being a quokka, native to western Australia).

I've wanted to give Judy a "command station" of sorts - a spot where she ponders over cases after work hours littered with papers, a huge map of the city, books, binders, the whole nine yards, though it must be big enough to hold a small desk [that she's fallen asleep at numerous times]. At the same time I prefer it to be tucked away. So I'm playing with the idea that she converted the walk-in-closet into "office space" (and closet) that gives the spot away via an extension cable running into the closet, and light that shines through the semi-closed doors (either crooked pocket doors - like my old home - bifold with slits, or accordion doors). Cotton would discover this spot on her own since she sleeps with Judy, but despite Nick being a consistent guest here he's consciously avoided her room.

This is the first environment I've ever sat down and designed and I had a lot of fun with it despite how simple a bathroom is. Spaces are reflections of the mammals using them, whether it's home to many or a few items. They are characters on their own. I want Judy to just barely be able to reach things in her house, so step stools and ladders are in almost every room. Since it's a brownstone home I want to keep that "dated" look to it. Because I grew up in a rowhome as well, this has been extremely therapeutic and nostalgic for me. Though Nick doesn't live here, I do want something of his placed in here subtlety since he finds himself babysitting while Judy is on the night shift.

View images in the carousel up top if it's hard to read the text. Floorplan I'm happy with for the house. Not scaled right - it needs to have separate spaces, but still have that cozy feeling of a Mid-Atlantic/New England-NYC rowhome without being comically claustrophobic like The Pangolin Arms apartment Judy canonically live[d?] in. Spacious or tight and chaotic when the story dictated. I realize I still need to post a version 2 of the pre-production bible to further explain some of these spaces.

A collage of illustrations from as far back as 2020 using this floor plan. Judy's been living in this house longer than I thought XD

It was two o'clock last night and I figured it was time to wind down for bed....after I drew a vixen. Hadn't drawn characters in a few days so it was nice to come back. Was watching The Emperor's New Groove and wanted to capture those sexy clean lines they use in the movie. No context, just Mrs. Wilde (Vanessa). I imagine she's always been a looker.

Wow, you HAVE been busy, Qal! This is some really neat stuff! I really like the "command station" in the WIC concept, it definitely feels like something Judy would have. Keep up the awesome work!

It's all so good

Unfortunately the closet idea got nixed, BUT I am keeping her workstation because I honestly feel like she would try to keep working after hours [unfortunately] out of habit or otherwise. Thank you :>
