So, you could say that my area of expertise is Avatar, right? Well, I wanted to take a closer look at why we love and remember certain side characters in Avatar more than others. From that, maybe we can figure out what makes a good side character in the first place!

As always, thank you so much for your support. I cannot believe we're coming up on the end of another year, but here we are. I now have all my videos planned out through till December, and I hope you like the lineup.

What are your side characters like? Let me know down below or over on the Discord!

I'm a new patron who has thoroughly enjoyed your content. I found the distinction between subplots and sidequests to be helpful, and I'm curious to hear more about sidequests, since in a previous video (when you mentioned Skyrim) it didn't sound like sidequests were your favorite. Alongside the more expected greats (like The Firebending Masters, The Puppetmaster), two of my favorite Avatar episodes are the Fortuneteller and the Ember Island Players, which are definite sidequests. I think sidequests have the ability to really be whimsical and clever, or break the fourth wall, or explore a world further. Even if these don't directly advance the plot, I would still consider these a legitimate component of storytelling. What are your thoughts?

I think that the episodic nature of television makes it a little bit different. Sidequests definitely have the ability to be compelling by themselves — no doubt about it. But I think in single stories, novels, films and so on, we have to be aware of how they impact the pacing when they don't exist alone in the same way an episode of TV might.

Awesome and in-depth as all ways. I'd love to see an analasis of the tropes and characters in the new She-Ra series, especially on Catras development which many compare in quality to Zukos! :)
