Kuda yari is one 5 different yari (spear) types. Most famous one was probably Nagae yari (long spear) which was used by samurai armies to combat armoured enemies. The martial art is called sojutsu (art of spear). It was at its highest during the sengoku (feudal) and Edo periods. Kuda yari which came from the Owari Kan Ryu tradition is one part of the sojutsu but it was the most deadly. Big part of why I love this show is because it illustrates so many interesting cultural and historical things!

Thank you for letting me know that! It's so nice to see that they are able to incorporate some real life history. It reminds me of that statue in Kamakura from early episodes as well, I was surprised to learn it actually exists. :)
