One thing: the admiral's death scene. I never interpreted that silence as sadness for the admiral's death. I always took that as the moment where Ruafo turned a corner. He was now "off the leash," and was willing to murder to get what he wanted. The admiral paid the price for his bad judgement, but it's Ruafo that we're supposed to focus on. He's gone full villain. That's always been my take on it, anyway. :D

The original script had Picard vs. a close Starfleet friend and they changed it to Ruafo so that’s part of why he wasn’t fleshed out. The VFX were better in theaters but don’t hold up after converting for HD. That was a new FX company at the time but went on to do the Marvel movies along with many others. Alan Sylvestri was also very popular at that time especially for scoring Back to the Future and Forest Gump. That mambo track was a discarded track from a movie he did at the same time that’s why he got credit
