This song came out during covid actually so you’re right it was a sort of “cheer up” from BTS. They were supposed to go on one of their biggest world tours before they would be in the millitary so when covid got that cancelled it devastated a lot of fans and BTS themselves. They said that this song was born in a difficult time to get everyone to cheer up and stay hopeful :) and it was also their first full-english song!

Another great reaction! You asked how army (bts fans) felt about this song and its hard to answer for army as a whole since it's so big, but long time fans honestly did not like it by and large. It had none of the soul, sincerity or lyrics that we love from them. It's like after years and years of people dismissing our Fandom as boy crazied, empty headed followers of a 'boyband' and us being able to honestly fight back and say 'it's really not like that' suddenly it was. And bts themselves had never wanted that image, never wanted to sing in English, and it felt like a betrayal. Now, to be fair, like the commenter said, it was supposed to be just a fun gift for fans during a hard time and bts seems ok with the decision but it was still an uncomfortable vibe for some of us. And like you said, it's the most watched of all their videos so when the lay person looks them up, this pretty, empty, cliche boyband is what they see. Pretty frustrating.
