S COUPS IS BACKK YAAY!!

I really REAAALLLY wanted to love this concert, maybe if I had watched it first I would've enjoyed it more because the positives are definitely there. Their talent, the band, the choreo, the stage and their charisma is undeniable.

However, naturally I have different expectations now and also I'm more tuned into what I personally LOVE when watching a concert and what will stimulate me and a lot of this concert fell short.

I have no idea why the times when you DO get live vocals which is about a good 45% of the show which is pretty great, they're low and mixed in with the music. The ONLY time this didn't happen and I FELT the show TRULY come alive was during the ending of HOT and that's a shame because we could've had more of that energy sprinkled out through the show.

This is by no means a "bad" concert, it just meets my expectations (except those beautiful drones) and that doesn't excite me. I also wish the show didn't start with Super. It was EASILY the most epic sounding song so naturally the setlist could feel underwhelming after that, I had GOOSEBUMPS. Definitely my favourite show opener so far.

There was definitely a sense of conservativeness and keeping it safe throughout the show which I argue is needed when you have a LARGE group with 13 members who I'M SURE have differences in opinions and tastes so this leads of more straight forward concepts etc to try and please as many members as possible but the downside is there are less surprises for someone after a truly unique concert experience that gives you a show you can't get anywhere else.

I AM curious to check out a concert of theirs around 2018/9 for comparisons sake.

Enjoy!

I completely agree with everything you said, I also think the venue is a massive factor, their concerts when they were playing arenas I enjoyed a lot more as I felt you could hear the live vocals better and the performances as a whole felt more authentic and you could see them enjoying it a lot more!

Ohh thanks for this one! I agree on wanting the vocals more forward, i want to hear them much more than i do on this for the sake of the energy!! But also, I would probably want to find some fan cams as well to see if it sounds any diff at the venue, bc one thing I've noticed with online concerts and some award shows is that the audio recording of the live performances on the official virtual, like, takes out some of the mic sound? and it ends up sounding less live than it does in fancams I see later (i remember this for last years Don Quixote award show perf where they sounded so much louder in the fan cams)? like I'm curious what the process is for recording and producing the audio for these officially released concerts. I deleted twitter tho so i didn't see any fan cams lol so kinda a moot point bc i still want more forwardly mixed vocals pls oh, and yeah I agree on the vocal unit songs, it's pretty 50/50 on whether i vibe w a VU song bc they do a lot of simple songs. I think this may be bc a lot of the carry on them is lyrical but bc i would need to watch a lyric vid every time to get that impact it's just inevitably lost on me unless i know the song really well. But then again, VU also has some of my fave songs like Same Dream, Same Mind, Same Night; Habit; and Second Life. Also yay for Vernon and Dino appreciation hours, I always think vernon is such a fun to watch live performer, he plays with tone/pitch/cadence on his delivery in live settings more than most and it makes it so much more engaging, and Dino is just so charismatic and joyful and controlled... the smooth glasses move!!! ok, sir! I think that where they could have more personalizations is definitely in the unit stages just cuz they're more agile there in the fewer number of people.

Yessss I saw a new side to Vernon here and yeah I’m sure there are moments where there’s post editing but there’s a lot of moments you can tell they’re definitely not singing live at all but meh it happens

Omg Micah thank you for reacting to this! I was at this concert and the stadium feel was phenomenal, S.Coups is my bias and I was so happy to see him back on stage with everyone especially Hip Hop Unit, it just doesn't seem complete without him with them during Fire and Back It Up perfs during his hiatus. I'm a bit sad that Day 2 concerts tend to start early therefore it was still very much light out when the concert began so the effect of the staging, lighting and the audience with the lightsticks doesn't translate well on video. I did notice that they looked a bit tired for Day 2 versus Day 1 and this might have affected their energy level and willingness to sing live all throughout. The weather in Korea was also very strange as even though it was spring, night temps would still drop to less than 8-10 degrees! A lot of us in the audience were freezing halfway through the concert even though we had coats, and I feel bad for dozing off during some of the ments, it was so cold. :( That said, I agree that the set list isn't as good compared to let's say Be The Sun? There were a lot of songs here that required them to just stand and interact with the audience versus choreo and it just doesn't look good without live vocals. I could care less about the drone show as well idk, it made for a very good concert memory photo but not what I'd associate with Seventeen. I am also with you re: vocal unit; I'm not a fan of their song releases as a unit therefore I can't help but tune out their perfs compared to PFU and HHU that had better overall dynamics and experimentation in both their choreo and sound. I haven't liked any of their songs since Samex3, but at least during Be the Sun they had that crowd participation sing-along for Imperfect Love so it was fun to be a part of that + something we anticipated for each stop. I feel the Seoul stadium concert would be more your thing since they performed the latest songs there like Maestro as well as the new unit songs.

I wish I did face the sun instead for sure but yess I love hearing how you experienced it as someone that wasn’t there. I LOVED the drones haha but now you say it it could feel like a random prop

Just signed to watch this haha You should’ve watched the original follow tour in Seoul or follow again day 1 bc the show was at night and it was more cool to watch the lighting, fire, the production overall.. But yeah with this encore tour coups and jeonghan were still hurt and couldn’t dance hard and this is why they are missing in some parts/songs… Also the setlist is more chill probably bc of that. And yet the show was emotional to us fans since coups was back after 8 months and also so enjoyable bc of their chemistry and talent. Be the sun tour is still their best and the most energetic one. You should check that one too 😊

Seconding the suggestion to watch the original Follow Tour in Seoul - I personally feel this is superior to the Follow Again setlist simply because the arena had a more intimate (?) audience feel and far suited the production/set designs like the flowers blooming as they walked the stage (I forgot which song lol), the monster truck during HHU, them performing Kidult + the unit perf clothes were significantly better. Although I'm in agreement that nothing beats Be The Sun hehe

SVT is my ult group so I'm extremely biased. But I agree with everything you said in terms of the live vocals and the energy levels. I don't know what it is, maybe it has something to do with scoups and jeonghan having injuries and having to change things and work around that, but I definitely didn't feel as much spark with this particular concert. Svt is a very reliable group for me, I know what I'm getting and I know they'll deliver a good show and I'm glad they're able to show how comfortable they are on stage and as a group. There's not many groups around at the moment who are this far into their career and still promoting this frequently so I'm so used to younger groups who feel like they have something to prove and are trying to get their footing. I'm glad they ended up releasing Maestro because THAT felt like they were not playing it safe and being comfortable as group in their 9th year

tragedy has struck.. they just announced that their next japan tour dates are being streamed so it'd probably have performances of their new unit songs in them lmao

Your internet is an opp for real lol. Still enjoyed the reaction, though I agree, nothing blew me away. I did love the live band and song arrangements though.
