Nobody puts Baby/River in the corner! Especially not when she's wearing a pretty pink dress! (Also, I forgot to make a Monty Python duck/witch joke, and I'm ashamed of myself).

I’m so excited for you. You’re heading into a stretch of absolutely brilliant episodes.

I think out of all of the episodes of Firefly, this is the episode that I’ve most come to appreciate more as I’ve gotten older. At first, I was most interested in and invested in Book’s story and background. But the more I’ve rewatched, I’ve come to understand just how much this showed of Simon’s life, why he was so pompous and snarky, and where he began to change. The final sequence is filled with so much quiet (maybe silent) symbology of him having come from money and education and wealth, but never really from a place of home (or at least, a good home). Even the nice things his father did came couched with conditions (“You must become a brilliant doctor”)…and even then, he clearly favored his son over his daughter…and perhaps the seeds for some jealousy plots in an unrealized future between brother and sister. But in Serenity, he has people he fights with, doesn’t like, but who are open and honest in their disdain. And yet, he already belongs in a way that is above reproach or question. Love is not always like, but loyalty comes from honesty. I have come to adore the final shot of the dinner. Everyone having a wonderful meal, even Jayne laughing with the crew. Simon trying to make an amend with Kaylee, starting with holding the chair out. It may have no dialogue, but it’s a scene filled with chatter and laughter. God damn, I love it. Also, now that you have a hint a bit more about River, Jacqui, go back to this line and ponder what she has come from: “Don’t shove needles in my eyes and ask me what I see!!!” 😬 I’ll save my thoughts about Book for another comment…there’s more to come on that topic… #MovieNight - The more I see you geek out about the technical side of this, PLEASE watch Severance!!! I think you will be so geeked about how well Ben Stiller made it. #MovieNight - Also, please watch The Sandman. I just think you’ll love it, and not enough people have reacted to it yet! Yours would be great!

Excellent points, can't see anything I even mildly disagree with. One small part I noticed this time is when they were young and River pointed out that Simon's answer and the whole book/conclusion was wrong, Simon doesn't act negatively to what could be considered an arrogant statement. He just puts his homework away and goes along with her story. It seems to me that Simon believes River is probably right and there's nothing to get defensive about, which speaks highly of their bond even at a young age.
