Chapter 3 – Fame and Reason for the Journey

While Lirica was shrewdly moving on to her sales talk, Schild was carefully analyzing the situation.

The fundamental goal of Schild’s visit to the capital was to find his father, who had abandoned him and his mother when he was a child.

The only clue that can help him find his goal is the sword that his mother gave him at the start of his journey.

However, being not lectured on how to handle a weapon in his younger days, it was rough-handled more times than Schild remembered.

Still, despite him relying on it heavily in his seven years as a mercenary, it has never suffered even a single blade chip, proving even to a common birth like him that this was no ordinary sword.

“Once you have proven your skills in the royal capital together with this sword, you will naturally catch the attention of that man.”

These were the words that his mother had entrusted to him along with this sword.

Schild was sure that his mother is living peacefully with her new husband in their home right now, but the point is……

(I guess that means I need to make a name for myself if I want to catch his attention.)

If you’ve made some kind of a name for yourself in the capital and your name is widely known, it’s logical that your father somewhere in the capital will hear about it.

Schild still has some concerns about whether his own father would come all the way to see him. After all, it is the man who had left and avoided them, but……

(This is better than doing nothing at all.)

And in that respect, monster-slaying was the most straightforward way to show one’s prowess.

Even now, Schild’s name should have already been known to some extent, even if it was only for killing a dinogator as a souvenir.

If he could defeat more powerful monsters, his name would soon be known throughout the capital.

Even the ears of one person he has yet to meet would definitely hear of him.

“What’s the matter? Is there something wrong?”

“Ah, no, it’s nothing……”

Lirica seemed disconcerted by the sudden pensive nature of Schild. However, the other party just smoothed it over, not giving her a chance to pursue.

“The purpose of coming to the royal capital……huh. This might be a common reason, but I want to sell my name out there.”

Shading it off into a harmless degree, Schild explained the purpose of his visit to the capital.

“I want to know how far my arm will reach, and the most prosperous capital in the country is the most suitable place to test it.“

“True, a lot of people visit us because they want to test their skills.”

“I know, but it’s still a little embarrassing to speak it out.”

About 50% of it was acting, though. But the rest is real.

“Well, the true beauty of the royal capital comes from the information available about the powerful monsters it has been through.”

That wasn’t just a statement. This kingdom’s accomplishments were so famous that people not knowing that as a basic fact is considered as lacking in common sense. After all, it has been through several campaigns against these monsters, and is still standing strong.

“My goal is like that, to defeat and gain a reputation as high as I can, then become so famous that not knowing my name will become a symbol for their stupidity.”

Of course, the part of “seeking my father and knocking him with his sword” was left out, but it’s not like it matters right now.

“If that’s the case, my guild will be happy to help. I’ll be passing on information about the rabid monsters that are difficult to defeat, so please be prepared.”

“It’s also my utmost welcome. Take care of me from now on.”

With a firm handshake over the table, Schild and Lirica’s cooperative relationship is now established.

It’s not a bad start. Schild thought.

The fact that he was able to establish a relationship with a key person who handled monster information immediately after entering the capital was sure to be a big plus for his future career as a subjugator.

“So, Mr. Schild, what do you plan to do now, may I ask?”

“Now?”

“You just came to the royal capital today, didn’t you? And you went straight from the castle gate to here. I am most certain you haven’t found a place to sleep yet.”

It was that time that Schild realized that he still needs to secure a bed to lay down…… In other words, an inn.

“Well, worrying about the accommodations is unnecessary with this much money.”

Schild clanked his coin bag, which was so huge and heavy that it seemed like it was about to break the table at any time.

“With this much money, I’m sure that most inns will let me in even without a reservation.”

“You have a point……but would it pose more convenience if you already have a set destination? The capital is so big, after all. If you don’t mind, I can introduce you an accommodation. You can even gain a discount for related parties.”

“I see. Is this really a thing you guys do?”

“It’s a part of it. After all, the guild’s purpose is to provide welfare for its customers, subjugators, and clients alike, especially ones with abilities like you. And even if you say that you have plenty of room in your pocket, it’s always better to save.”

“Now please, tell us if you have a request for accommodation. Such things as inns where the hot water can be used, places where meals are served in such a way……”

“In that case, it would be nice if there’s a place full of women.”

“……I’m sorry, what?”

Schild continued regardless of Lirica’s bewildered expression.

“You see, I’ve been traveling for quite a while. Because of that, it’s been a long time since I’ve tasted a woman’s body.”

In the seven years since he left his hometown, Schild was not only learning himself on the art of survival. In his journey, he was also made to know to play around – especially with the opposite sex.

He had no interest in gambling or drinking, but for some reason, he was truly fascinated by the soft skin of women and the wetness of their pussies, and sought them out whenever he got the chance.

“A place where one can hold a woman while he stays? Ah……!”

After saying that much, the female branch manager then realized what he’s talking about, immediately turning rigid while red all over.

““……Ah, T-that was very indelicate of me……” Schild came up with an excuse immediately.

“I, no, it wasn’t supposed to be said on a woman, much more to a person you just met……Again, sorry about that, guild manager.” Then he followed up with a deep bow.

“P-please raise your head! I was just a little surprised, that’s all.”

Lirica flapped her hands in an attempt to cool down her excitement, but the red in her face didn’t go away.

“W-we know that you’re in a very dangerous profession, s-so it’s only natural for you to look for alcohol and w-women. W-we’re already used to dealing with s-such straightforward people, you see……though it is the first time I was asked of this thing directly……”

It was as if she was still a teenage girl who hasn’t known sex.

Of course, the actual age of the girl is probably in her late twenties.

She wore glasses and an official-looking suit, but when she was so innocently distraught, it gave off a unique gap of youthful sexiness.

“A-anyway, please pretend you didn’t hear what I just said. If you could just introduce me to a normal inn, that’s all I need……!” Schild tried to regain his dignity. However,

“I can’t do such thing! Y-you have been in a long journey, right? T-that means, y-you’re really s-starving for a woman right now……”

“W-well, if you put it that way……”

“I-if something bad happens to our client who has potential to become an important partner in the future……his reputation will……no, I mustn’t allow it……however, I’m not familiar with such establishments…….”

Of course, you are. Rather, it would be more shocking if the elegant-looking branch manager like she knew of any brothels to recommend. At that point, what I would be questioning next will be your tastes…… Schild thought as he tried to think of a way to calm the situation, but before he could even do so,

“Ah, that’s right!”

“?”

“Come to think of it, I am a woman too, and this may be my chance to rise too……mumble, mumble……”

“?”

After giving an expression that was as if she’s about to try out a chance in her lifetime, Lirica approached, saying something that was much more outrageous than telling which brothels are the best.

“Then, how about I take care of it myself? Y-your hunger for women, that is.”

“Come again!?”
